RICK PERRY'S AWFUL WEEKEND: Will He Be The Next GOP Candidate To Flame-Out?
Business Insider ^ | Sep. 25, 2011, | Staff

Texas Governor Rick Perry's once-surging campaign is on thin ice, after flailing in three debates and suffering defeats in two key-state straw polls.

Once limited to the opinion page of the Wall Street Journal or The Weekly Standard, concerns over Perry's electability are now very much in the mainstream.

In a major upset for the Perry campaign, former Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain won the Florida Presidency 5 Straw Poll by a 22-point margin — a race Perry heavily contested. Later Saturday, favorite son and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney blew away Perry in the Michigan Straw Poll by a surprising 34-point margin.

Many of his problems have been self-inflicted. Perry's debate performance has been inconsistent, at best — and surprisingly Perry decided to engage his opponents, rather than focus his criticism on Obama.

The substance of his answers has also drawn criticism — and parody — for his incoherent and controversial responses on foreign policy and immigration, respectively.

Romney... pro abortion, anti gun, pro federal government in education, believes in global warming, increased taxes and spending as governor, has a neoconservative foreign policy bend.

Id rather have Christie or Giuliani or Huntsman. At least they are honest about their lefty positions. Romney sucks. Id hold my nose and vote for him over Obama, but I will do whatever I can to prevent that scenario as long as there are other candidates.

If I here one more “conservative” commentator stand up for Perry or Romney, I’m gonna puke.

And to the GOP establishment - forget Huntsman too. What about 1% polling don’t you get?

Perhaps the electorate has lost its sureness in selecting decent candidates whether Republican or Democrat? Pehaps no one individual in either party is truly fit to be President? Perhaps the large number of candidates reflects the ever increasing and rapid dis-integration of our society? The current fool in the Office of President could be a symptom-not a cause? Perhaps we are no longer a “People” but have become a mere demographic occupying a geographical location?

I blame the media for that one, they started pumping McCain, and that was who team Oblidiot wanted to run against.

The press is a DANGEROUS animal... and they are in the tank for obama. This means we have to watch for negative press as much as positive press, because in many ways no press is bad press - and the campaign of John McCain is proof in 2008.

No no no, don't you understand! It all OUR fault for not just falling down and mindlessly worshiping at the shrine of Perry!

We "little people" are not allowed to question the behavior of our party betters. We must all now just fall in line behind the blessed St Rick so he can "save" us!/S

I think in order to get elected the GOP needs someone who is more :middle of the road". We need to get the Independents on board and having an "uber" conservative just isn't going to get it. Watching Perry in the debate - he really didn't show me anything and I think he stumbled at times and his responses were confusing. I am a registered Dem, but I am a "John Kennedy" Dem and my party has veered too far to the left - in looking at which candidate can attract people like me - its Romney or someone like him. The thing is.....the GOP needs to pick someone that is way more attractive than McCain was. I can't think of any candidate that was worse than McCain and in my mind....it seems the GOP wanted to lose the last election.

If Palin gets in, it will become utter havoc and Romney will take the nomination.

Romney cannot compete in an environment that consists only of republicans. Pure and simple truth. He's the democrat candidate.

Big deal! Straw polls are meaningless — they didn’t even hold the FL straw poll for several years for lack of interest.

Bachmann won the straw poll in Iowa, she still has no chance and neither does Cain.

It’s as I said: if not Perry, it’s Romney, if it’s Romney, it’s Obama. That’s the bottom line — that all the Perry-attackers should consider.

Perry or Obama. Pick one.

What stupid stuff? The Muslim in the cabinet comment. I’d be a little skeptic too. Trust but verify. At least he is honest. Hands down doesn’t compare to 57 states or referring to our servicemen as corpse men.

And of these three, Guiliani’s moderate stances are the only possible negatives against Obama in an election that will be dominated by the economy. Besides Huntsman is the only candidate in the race and the vast bulk of his record is conservative to the core. And at a solid 10% second place in New Hampshire, by the way.

Stop with Romney and Perry. Our candidate is right there in front of us. It is Cain. He is honest non political in otherwords a breath of fresh air. He can and will beat Obama if only we could stop focusing on Perry Romney. The media is electing our candidate again!! Until we start screaming our heads off, He will not get air time. They are setting us up to lose again. They chose McCain. Never again. Start writing and emailing. Get him out front. I don’t want any more of these talking heads. I want someone who us going to fix the problems. Cain has a business model which is outstanding. You can see his solutions aren’t poltical. He honestly has a plan that will work. Get him out front and watch him take off. Cain/Rubio. Oh yes we can!!!!

No more will the MSM tell us who are candidates are. No more holding our nose and voting. We the people. Something is happening folks. America wants solutions not politics as usual. Now what? He needs money. He needs volunteers. I am on board. May God bless America. May God keep him safe.

The way McCain got the nomination was precisely because the conservatives vote was split. Cain has no chance whatsoever, other than what just happened, took votes from Perry and Romney will win, then Obama will beat Romney, just the way McCain got the nomination, then was beaten by Obama.

Looks like conservatives are just refusing to live in reality and thereby they are enabling a 2nd term for Obama.

Screaming a false choice over and over doesn't magically change fiction to fact.
