Obama Urges Black Community To 'March With Me' Athena Jones September 24, 2011
Washington (CNN) -- While acknowledging the hard-hit black community and budding criticisms in its ranks, President Barack Obama said in a speech Saturday night to the Congressional Black Caucus that he wouldn't give up -- and urged members of the black community to join him to jump-start the still-sluggish economy.
"I expect all of you to march with me, and press on," Obama said. "... Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We've got work to do." The unemployment rate among African-Americans is 16.7%, nearly double the national average, while 40% of black children live in poverty.
Such facts have made fiscal reforms a priority for caucus members, some of whom -- most of them Democrats -- have criticized Obama for not doing enough on the issue.
They include Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, who at a caucus "jobs' tour town hall" in Detroit this month described the unemployment rate among blacks "unconscionable." She said the strategy to fix it was unclear, adding that the caucus was "getting tired" of waiting for one. She questioned the president's decision to focus on the Midwest during a three-day jobs bus tour in August, stating that the 3 million who live in Iowa -- and are mostly white -- are roughly equal in number to the African-Americans who are out of work.
She suggested that Obama's administration seemed more keen to focus on that politically important state than on the black community. "Are the unemployed in the African-American community, including almost 45% of its youth, as important as the people of Iowa?" she asked in the statement she released ahead of the president's speech before a joint session of Congress in which he announced his jobs...

Liberals have lectured us that conservatives are NOT allowed to paraphrase Dr. King.
I was personally told by a liberal leaning person that to quote Dr. King about judging on the color of skin and content of character, is taking Dr. King’s words and message out of context. I think Dr. King’s words in that case were pretty plain and straightforward, but, this liberal told me that conservatives twist Dr. King’s words and message.
I like Cain. He speaks his mind and makes good sense. Every time I see Perry, he reminds me of a old time revival preacher. Perhaps that is because every picture posted of him on Drudge captures that persona. I grew up attending Baptist churches with the fire and brimstone act every Sunday. It’s not going to play well on the campaign trail.

Put yourself in Obama’s shoes for a second. As Obama, what would you rather be known for: 1) being the first president of your race (over which you had no control), and a spokesperson for that small subset of the country; or 2) a uniter, who pulled off something FEW presidents accomplish — make everyone respect you and want to pull together. I say #2; Obama had a shot at that real legacy, and ignored it.
Imagine Reagan, or the Bushes addressing the Congressional Black Caucus at all. That would be racist.
Accepting everything you say about who Obama appeared to be, before the election.
STILL, he could have been a great president if he had turned on a dime and tried to represent the whole country. In other words, he would have told his base and handlers to stuff it, and tried to govern responsibly.

If I understand what you’re saying, you had rather have illegal aliens filling your workforce and having me pay for their benefits, health insurance, and other government handouts. They have no constitutional right to be in this country illegally and those who hire them are as complicit in breaking the laws and bending our constitution as they are.
