Rick Perry's campaign stuggles to explain straw poll loss

Reporting from Tampa, Fla. -- A black, threatening cloud hung low over the Orange County Convention Center on Saturday evening as top members of Gov. Rick Perry’s brain trust left a place their candidate would love to forget.

At best half showed up, leaving tables groaning with uneaten bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon and fruit cocktail. At the end of the governor’s rather perfunctory eight-minute speech, the breakfast crowd offered a rather perfunctory round of applause, the first public clue that all might not be going well in Perryville.

The Texan’s campaign fielded the largest cadre of volunteers and paid staff at the event. His staffers, wires dangling from their ears (a touch, and expense, that no other campaign matched), were very much in evidence Saturday inside the convention hall, as they distributed signs and buttonholed delegates. Another visible sign of the considerable investment Perry made in Florida: signage that included a huge banner, hanging in the foyer of the convention hall, which greeted the 3,000 delegates, starting on debate night; Perry’s campaign paid an undisclosed sum to the state party for the privilege.

I posted long time back that none of the nine current contenders would be at the top of the ticket, whether Palin runs or not.

We shall see who is correct soon enough.

In the mean time lay down the bucket or at least get one with a handle.

Some people here declared that Perry is a diabolical crony capitalist.
Michell Bachmann said as much.
Sarah Palin jumped right on that band wagon too.
Then she backed off quick when she saw Michelle take flak.

Now he is just a rube on FR a stupid rube with no clue.

So why is Perry the longest running Governor in Tx history?

“Debates are important”

No doubt about it.

The next is in October on Bloomberg TV.

I hope somebody will give a review. (I didn’t know there was Bloomberg TV...much less subscibe to it. You may call me cheapskate.)

The simple fact is that while illegal immigrant labor is very profitable for Bob Perry Home Builders, Pilgrim's Pride Poultry, etc., it is a tremendous financial burden on local, state and national governments. FAIR estimates illegal immigrants cost in excess of $110 billion annually.

Who were his opponents? Aren’t we choking enough on voting for the lesser of two bad choices (notice I did not say ‘evils’) Most recently KBH? As I have said in a couple posts, I’d vote for RP too with that choice, and happily. Do you agree that his opponents may have played a part in his longevity?

Kay Baily Hutchinson was the last one to run against him, along with Bill White and Debera Medina

He shot a coyote, Romney hauls a dog in the back of a pickup, wow can they skin a grizzly?

Besides Obama shot Bin Laden.

If any republican living or dead cannot beat Obama in the next election, then it is time to roll up and turn the lights out anyway, because the people have chosen the hedonistic commie life over freedom.

You know what, mylife?

I like Sarah a lot. I hope she runs.

But until she gets on to the stage and confronts the press, the mediators and other candidates, I will withhold my support.

No doubt she has the support. But the excuses on this forum are a little overboard. I want to see her do it.Raise some money. Show me what you have, Sarah, as a presidential candidate.

Perry is no rube. At least he stuck his neck out. Will I vote for him in the primary? I don’t know. He had a very bad night.

KBH was a longtime heavyweight R senator, Bill White was a 3 term D Mayor of Houston and Debra Medina was the tea party candidate du jour.

It is not Perry’s debating skills that turn of Conservatives, it is his policy. GW couldn’t debate his way out of paper sack, but people voted for him before the really knew him.

The second election he promised to build a fence knowing that the money would be pulled after the election. I would have voted for an unnamed republican before voting for Kerry, as would have any other republican.

Obama was the result of compassionate conservatism and Karl Tokyo Rove. Color it any way you want this nation is at risk and a GW light is not the solution, it is merely clearing the way for the next Marxist.

One can check immigration status..but can’t not hire because of it. We can only inform the potential employee that there are issues with their Social Security Card.
_____________________________________________________________

This is incorrect. You must first hire an employee before you can run him through E-verify.

You are not allowed to run “potential” hires through E-verify.

Also e-verify doesn’t verify immigration status, just that the information provided by the employee matches the records at the SS admin.

He did have a very bad night.

All I can think is that he is playing rope a dope.
Or that his meds were off from the back surgery.

Or Perhaps he just fumbled under the pressure of the defensive line.

I dunno.

I do know that he has a track record and that he can win.
We shall see, We shall see..

I am a big Perry supporter and I am laughing at the foolishness of those who are announcing the death of the Perry campaign

I agree 100 percent, and I'm just sickened by all these elitists around here who insist that being a stone-cold moron is some kind of "disqualification" for a candidate.
