'MillionMoms mad over Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | 9/21/11 | Wayne Bledsoe

Ben and Jerry's name for a new ice cream flavor has at least one conservative group up in arms. OneMillionMoms, which is associated with the American Family Association objected to the name Schweddy Balls, which is a reference to a "Saturday Night Live" skit that featured Alec Baldwin as a name-challenged maker of Christmas candy.

In a statement at www.onemillionmoms.com, the group said "The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket." The statement followed with a full description of the puns in the skit, which is available at the Ben & Jerry's website: http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/feature/schweddy/

According to the website, the flavor is: "Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and is loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls."

OneMillionMoms also objected to the flavor Hubby Hubby, a special edition of the flavor Chubby Hubby in honor of gay marriage.

"It seems that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry's," . . .

Ice cream scoops on Capitol Hill attract a crowd

September 20, 2011, 4:42 pm by Kate Oczypok

Who doesn’t like a little Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Fudge Brownie on a rainy afternoon? (Or when it’s sunny, or partly cloudy, or windy)

The ice cream powerhouse of Ben & Jerry’s teamed up with the Peace Alliance to celebrate the International Day of Peace by serving free scoops of ice cream to Capitol Hill staff and members of Congress.

ITK spotted Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) running in to grab a scoop of what looked like Cherry Garcia and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) made some remarks at the event. Scott praised the event’s efforts to raise awareness about the Youth PROMISE Act, the United States Institute of Peace and the Complex Crises Fund. Scott also told ITK his favorite flavors are Cherry Garcia and Strawberry Cheesecake.

the OneMillionMoms and the American Family Association must have a whole lot of time on their hands in order to make a big issue out of ice cream.

However, I’m sure Ben & Jerry’s appreciates all the free advertising that the AFA is providing.

I guess they’d better hope Hot Dog on a Stick doesn’t get similar inspiration.

Malted-milk balls aren’t a bad idea for inclusion in ice cream, but it would take a lefty hater of all things decent to come up with double entendres like this. And here people were getting upset over St. Nick’s Naughty Ale that had a small picture of the legendary Santa Claus in the sky.

They are communists who use guar gum and other fillers in their less than premium ice cream.

I noticed with interest that the B&J at the very family-friendly beach I go to over the summer had closed. The other ice cream shops were all still there, and business was booming.

This year Ben & Jerry went out of their way to offend.

Along with Hubby Hubby and Schweddy Balls they have also put out Clusterfluffer and What the Fudge. Since they put out six special flavors a year that is 2/3 that are offensive.

A number of stores have refused to carry any of those four flavors so it makes no monetary sense for them to do this. Since they were bought by Unilever their quality has declined dramatically and their profits have dropped. You would think that they would have better sense then to offend their customers. Especially with so many gourmet ice cream companies ready and waiting to swooping and take their shelf space.

The name of the ice cream reminds me of 4-year-olds in the corner giggling over the word “pee”.

Never buy their stuff.

Communist’s minds are filled with vulgar, vile thoughts—and when they can’t resist using such immature, puerile terms, which they do for their own sexual arousal, is obviously disgusting....the sound of the ice cream makes me want to puke.....but for homosexuals, they would probably salivate......as they would over fecal matter. They are mentally ill and are self-loathing and, thus, have no care about tearing down morality in children. Of course, that is their aim—their desire-—the children.

We do owe them one big thank you for their well publicized scheme that anyone can be a CEO. It failed. They proved that any idiot can't do it.

If you ever want to see the value of advertizing, do a blind taste test with Ben & Jerry’s and other high end or even cheaper store brands.

B&J is like Apple computers for a lot of people. It’s a ‘lifestyle brand’ and many buy it for the name alone. Personally I prefer Thrifty’s and even WalMart’s store brand in a couple flavors. I honestly like the taste better.
