Lesbian couple suffer honeymoon hell
Telegraph ^ | September 21, 2011 | Richard Alleyne

Posted on 09/21/2011 2:32:05 PM PDT by NYer

Having tied the knot in a white wedding, a lesbian couple thought the icing on the cake would be a traditional honeymoon along with other young couples.

But the trip turned out to be a nightmare after staff at their resort treated them as if it was not a "real honeymoon" and excluded them from special romantic meals and dances.

Gemma Harman, 24, and Tamsin Harper, 36, said it was the "worst two weeks" of their lives and the "homophobic manner" in which they were treated was "disgusting".

The couple, from Brighouse, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, decided to go on the trip to a resort in Dominican Republic run by Thomson after their civil ceremony.

As it specialised in honeymoon couples and was run by a major tour operator they thought it would an ideal way to celebrate their union.

But they claim the company refused to acknowledge their holiday as a honeymoon and say they did not receive the special treatment offered to others because they were a same-sex couple. Ms Harman was so angry she contacted a local radio station to complain about "homophobic manner" in which they were treated.

The newly-weds claimed that other couples were treated "like VIPs", being offered special romantic meals at the hotel and having bottles of rum and fruit put in their room, but they received nothing.

When they tried to book a meal, it was never arranged and when they tried to complain, staff were "dismissive".

They were even excluded from a dancing competition because they were not a male and female pairing.

"They just did not treat us the same as everybody else," Ms Harman told Real Radio.

“And do you intend to have children right away?”

A plurality, some say the vast majority of dykes are man hater’s.

What’s really funny is they still MUST HAVE man seed to conceive and it drives em crazy.

Of course, thanks.

I can’t imagine booking a honeymoon vacation and then finding these two fat lesbians out on the floor dancing next to us, kissing etc.

I would leave the whole shebang.

"They just did not treat us the same as everybody else,"

Because you are a FREAK of nature. Why on earth would you expect to be treated as everyone else?

So let me guess here. Gemma’s the butch? She does sort of echo Buddy Hackett. Poor babies. Maybe they should have vacationed in San Fran. or kept in the states where people are too intimidated to say, “Marriage is between a man and a woman.” There they would get false platitudes by many who laugh at them behind closed doors in disgust.

seems like the local law would apply.

given the nature of business I can not imagine NORMAL couples wanting to have these sexual “alternative lifestyle” persons in their midst.

Perhaps they should have a seperate resort for the 1% of the 2% that want to simulate normal marriage.

I recommend they book their one year anniversary in the liberal paradise of Iran.

haha. exactly. and maybe Ahma . . . whatever his name is can provide marriage counseling. I am sure they will love their accommodations there.

According to rights of ownership, the owners of property have the right to decide how their property is used and disposed of. Customers have the right to refuse to do business with those owners if they do not like how they run their business. Everything is done on a voluntary basis with no use of force. This is how conflicts are avoided.

They put up with it for two weeks?? And now they're saying it was the worst two weeks of their life. Sounds like the resort just wasn't gay enough for them.

I bet they were pretty damn rude to everyone.

They think “honeymoon hell” is bad, wait until they experience the “weaping and gnashing of teeth” one...

I like to refer such people as "Lesbians of Necessity".

Furthermore, I would like to add that I don't respect their marriage either. *spits on the ground*

The difference between good and bad is not so self-evident, it has taken thousands of years of work by generation after generation of civilized humans operating within civilization frameworks to develop. That’s even if one discounts the impact of the giving of the Laws to Moses and the Israelites.

The most cherished and perishable of legacies passed from one generation to the next are the moral laws, the rules of good and bad as established after the work of hundreds of generations.

It is in utter ruination that we allow the empty “morality” of relativism and the anti-G-dly “morality” of secularism to become our legacy to our children. It is empty, it will leave them with nothing but chaos, ruin and despair.

And we see it happening already, the current generation lacks any true moral rudder — instead the most evil steer these young sheep straight to the slaughtering pens.

I wonder how “differently” they were treated. Imho, it is perfectly possible that their assessment of what happened is colored by a combination of paranoia and self-centeredness, with a bit of exhibitionism playing a part.

From what I’ve read in travel books, most of the Caribbean is NOT gay friendly. Especially not the Cayman Islands.

I faintly recall that there used to be a couple of such resorts many years ago. They got closed pretty quick after some sort of an environmental problem. I guess the time is ripe to open new ones, for the same purpose.

My questions: (1) Did the couple tell the company that they were same-sex couple when they made reservation? (2) Is there anything in the brochures, website, etc., indicating that they cater to heterosexual couples only?

This happened in the UK, where gay marriage has been legal for sometime. Any company who deals with honeymoon should have prepared that some same sex couples would take up their offers. If they don't want to deal with it, at least they need to put in their ads. To me, it's okay to turn down the couple if the company doesn't want to serve them for whatever reason. But, it's not okay to take their money and treat them differently.

I’m sick and tired of these people shoving their lifestyle down our throats. They knew from the beginning this would be a problem but they wanted to make trouble and they did. It didn’t take them long to get in the news did it?

I could care less what they do but in this instance they could have gone to Sanibel Island where their lifestyle would have been accepted.
