As of now, the 2012 Republican Presidential Primary race is all about Texas Governor Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, with no other candidate reaching double-digit support. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary voters shows Perry with 28% support and Romney capturing 24%. Before Perry entered his first debate, the Texan held an eleven point advantage over Romney, 29% to 18%.

Then Romney is irrelevant and so is this thread?

Read this: Perry and the Seven Dwarfs
I’ve been calling this a two man race the last week. Romney will not make it easy on Perry. Conservatives out number the liberal-moderates in the GOP. It’ll be tough for Willard to get the numbers he needs to win, but not impossible. Right now I’d say Perry has a 70% chance of winning.
Nope, but double posts are redundant. :)
Intrade has Romney 38.5, Perry 35.0
Meanwhile, Romney stubbornly sticks to his gun on RomneyCare, and he gets a bump in the polls. Apparently at least 1/4 of current registered GOP members have no problem electing a guy who made every person in his state carry health insurance, and who funded abortions with state taxpayer money in that bill. Why Bachmann didn't go after Romeny for that is perplexing. Perhaps in Bachmann’s world, Rick Perry strapping down girls and giving them the retard shot is worse than forcing state taxpayers to pay for the murder of babies.
No doubt. He nearly lost my support with that incredibly stoooopid remark about social security being a "Ponzi Scheme." My wife is very near the age to start collecting while I have at least six more years to go, but I don't like the idea of anybody rocking that boat. Perry has given ZERO the ultimate sound byte with that comment. This could hang around Perry's neck like WILLIE HORTON hung around the neck of the Dukakis campaign. Lunacy. I don't care if it's true or not. It is political suicide to provide the other side with ammo to use against you. Earth to Perry: PLEASE THINK before opening mouth to insert feet. Up to the kneecap.
You are right in that Perry has come closer to a mea culpa on HPV than Mitt has on Romney Care - and I didn’t make that clear enough - but he has only said that doing it by EO was a mistake and that he should have gone through the legislature. I agree he should have, but with the idea of government interference and cronyism being big issues in this campaign, I think he needs to go one step further than what he did.
Listen to it again, all he said was a mistake is how he went about it. Please governor, take it one more step.
That boat is going to be rocked one way or another. You can keep you head in the sand and say the money is always going to be there for you, or we can look at legitimate plans to help stabilize (and even grow) the so-called SS fund. Regardless of the wording, SS as it is today is flawed to the point that it will be insolvent long before I ever collect a dime of it.
Perry was addressing what was in his book. What was he to say...no I didn’t say that...read his book ‘Fed Up.’ Most local libraries have it.
I honestly don’t think he feels he did anything wrong in terms of wanting the vaccination to be included on the state’s vaccine list. The EO was stupid, though, and he did admit it.
If he really did enact the foolish EO in order to protect some of his constituents, then what would he apologize for? I find the claim that a guy who raised $39 million alone for the 2010 election would give a favor to a drug company that has given him an average of $2850/year during his 10+ years as governor to be absurd on its face.
"The coming weeks may provide sterner tests for Perry, and his lead may shrink in the coming months. But if Romney cannot make up some ground with conservatives and Tea Partiers, it may not matter how many debates he wins. As this poll demonstrates, the nomination is still Perrys to lose."
I found it very encouraging when conservative Gov McDonnell and conservative Gov Jindel came out so early endorsing Perry. Then we have Gov Daniels telling us he too is a fellow "ponzi schemer". Actually, what true blue conservative isn't? I still find it strange that Sen DeMint backed Romney in 2008 and stranger that he might again in 2012.
I can certainly understand DeMint endorsing Mittens against McRino. Hopefully, DeMint has a better choice now. He had not much of a choice in 2008.
You are going to see more and more of the Republican Govenors endorsing Perry. They all know him, like him a lot and trust him.
Not me, not in a million years! It took me a few days before I believed it. DeMint's decision is unacceptable.
Don't take me worng. McCain is a real sob, but his voting record has some conservative moements. Especially early on in his career. Romney is the biggest political liar and hypocrite in my lifetime and that covers the last seven decades. He's a real scumbag.
... or read this:
During Vietnam Willard, like ALL the Romney's, had no desire to go and fight for his country. He took religious deferments on his way to France. 20 years later Romney stated he "longed" to be in Vietnam "representing our country". It was "frustrating" for Romney. Can you say hypocrite?
During the 1960's Romney opposed Vietnam and moved to France.
During the 1970's Romney embraced abortion and liberalism.
During the 1980`s Romney rejected the Reagan agenda.
During the 1990`s Romney rejected the GOP and the Contract With America.
In 1994 Romney ran as a liberal Republican against Ted Kennedy.
In 2002 Romney ran for Governor as a liberal Republican.
In 2007 Romney had an epithany and quickly morped into a conservative --- albeit a phony conservative.
Its now 2011 and Romney is at it again attempting to hoodwink conservatives into supporting him.
What conservatives need to do is kick Romney to curb were all liberals belong.
I see...he is that much of a scumbag and DeMint has now crashed with his support of Mittens.
