As of now, the 2012 Republican Presidential Primary race is all about Texas Governor Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, with no other candidate reaching double-digit support. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary voters shows Perry with 28% support and Romney capturing 24%. Before Perry entered his first debate, the Texan held an eleven point advantage over Romney, 29% to 18%.

NO...it was a planned double team effort. She just went into Wackoville. Mittens didn't plan that...he was thrilled it happened.

Even the CNN moderator was in on the double team effort. Look every question ask to any of the debaters was an attack question against Perry. Those that'd attack him were given more questions...anyone with a balanced view could see that.

Your two man race scenario might be what it ends up - and it could come down to this: who is man enough first to admit to some of their previous screw ups: Romney on Romney Care for example - or Perry on guardicil for example. They have sort of hedged - Romney more than Perry, but are living under the old principle that you never admit a mistake.

In this day where as you put it, folks want leaders who mean what they say, a sincere “you know - I just screwed that one up - it was a bad mistake and I’ll not do anything like that again; “ would go a long way.

Both of these guys are in their 60’s and both have made a ton of executive decisions because they’ve both been the man in charge for a long time. Romney needed lib votes more than we like, or he would never have been Mass governor. Perry needed hispanic votes more than we like, or he would never have been Texas’ governor. How they handle some of their previous decisions will be huge IMO.

America is screwed if either one of the one world government politicians, Romney or Perry, gets in.

A little too close for comfort. Hopefully Perry will knock him out in Thursday’s debate.

What's your alternative? No one else on the current stage is going to be the nominee. We still have potential late entrants - Palin, Christie are probably the only two that could enter the mix...maybe Ryan, but he seems like an emphatic no to running in 2012. It is either Obama, Romney, or Perry in the current environment.

I agree. I thought Michele was “over the top” in her attacks on Perry in the last Debate, and I’m not big Perry fan.

Perry is holding the lead, but the direction is not good.

Looks like my worst fears have been realized. After 4 years of campaigning, people have come to accept Romney as a legitimate and viable candidate. Yuck! I just don't think it has anything to do with conservatism.

Perry has his work cut out for him. The GOP establishment is going all out for Romney. If Willard can get some conservatives to join his moderate-liberal coalition, he could pull this off.

You have to wonder about the over sized ego of just about anyone who runs for president, but that’s maybe what makes a president. I believe Bachman enjoyed such great early numbers that naturally, before she walks away, she wanted to throw the sink at Perrry to try for a come back. Ego. She now needs to be worried about Romney. Let’s see if she dings him.

The political class on both sides of the aisle want Romney, and they want us to convince ourselves that only he can beat Obama. That’s the game. To divide us and make us reject Perry on those grounds. This will be tough.

Romney can go the distance on the backs of the RINOS and probably a lot of democrats. Perry has been dinged, is not yet well known, and has a couple of controversial stances that are at odds with the conservative base, but if he can hold on and stay up on Romney in the south, he has a good chance to stay competitive as the primaries move north and he becomes better known. I sure don’t want Romney.

>>> WTH? Why is Romney even in this thing? <<<

Because the RINO machine, many democrats and some Independents like liberal Republicans find him to be
no threat to their power.

May the best RINO win..or worst? :)

Seriously how is the greatest conservative since Reagan only a few percent ahead of Romney?
I mean a Macho Texas he-man vs a massachusetts Romney Care RINO...really?

Mittens by having Michelle Bachmann attack Perry...and trust me Mitten’s did ask Bachmann to do that...this is how he works...pretty much destroyed her

Would also show how naive and politically unskilled Bachmann is - she'd get eaten alive in the Presidency if she lets Romney manipulate her with such ease...

It has been evident before Perry even entered the field...something was up with Bachmann and Mittens. It was even discussed here at FR.

I had high hopes for Bachmann and have defended her plenty of times. One of the reasons is she has claimed to be a strong believer...I judge a person by their fruits. It is unfortunate but her fruits aren't showing this in her.

She now comes across as just another whatever it takes to get ahead politician.

"It is either Obama, Romney, or Perry in the current environment."

Not a dimes worth of difference between the three.

NOBODY is going to pick Bachmann as VP. She can dream on. If Romney has led her to believe that she has a chance to make his ticket, he is playing her. She may have hurt Perry in the debate, but she also marginalized herself.
