I just looked up Canton....less than 3100 population, so commuting, even in those nasty winters, shouldn’t be too big a deal.

A quick look at related articles shows that California is losing businesses not only to low tax states like Texas, Nevada, and South Dakota, but to other liberal, but possibly more sensible, environs like Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. Liberals boast that California will continue to generate growth through cutting edge technology. However, these start up companies are increasingly migrating to other states and foreign countries as soon as they need to expand.

California is becoming Detroit writ large, albeit with beautiful scenery and a great climate.

Watch the movie “New in Town”. It may seem “brisk” to us, but those raised there take it in stride just fine.

I’ve been to eastern SD on many occasions. SD and ND are great places to set up shop for a bunch of reasons. That is why, when you talk to the McDonalds employee at a drive up window in many parts of the US the person taking your order is in ND.

What I remember most about Sioux Falls is the bum info I got 3 months ago from the host at the Cracker Barrel restaurant as we were headed south on I-29......I asked about the flood closures down the road and he told me "No biggie at all - 15 minute detour at most".

Right....it ended up being four extra hours and 200 extra miles.

We got nailed by that as well a couple months ago. Coming out of Sioux falls we were headed down to Louisville and were going to go Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis, Louiville. Instead we had to turn off before Omaha and go Des Moines, Davenport, Pioria, Indianapolis Louiville.

Interestingly, as we were approaching Omaha at night there were barriers along 29 and the water was about 2 feet higher than the road surface.

You were not misled. The person who gave you the info simply assumed that you would be driving at normal SD speeds.

I was aware that Dominos had done this with call in pizza orders, with a center in Oklahoma processing everything, but I had never heard of this at a McDonalds drive up window.

Where do they find all the non-English speakers in ND?

If I am correct, the SNOW in South Dakota (and North) has a tendency to always MELT. However Sound Dakota does lack many of the interesting occurences of California, such as earthquakes, the wildfire season, the mudslide season, crazy population, and a huge number of people who aren’t even legally there.
Also, many people love to ski when the snow is there.
