DETROIT, Mich (WXYZ) - Police say a thief who tried to rob the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society on Detroit's east side was shot and killed by an 88-year-old employee who had his own gun.
Officers say the 53-year-old suspect forced his way into the clinic after it closed on Saturday. He then roughed up the 88-year-old World War II veteran and demanded money. The 88-year-old is believed to be the clinic's doctor.
However, police say the victim grabbed his own gun and fired two shots, killing the suspect. The man does have a permit to carry the gun.
Even though police say it appears the shooting was justified, they will still send the case to the prosecutor. That is standard procedure in cases like this.

I think about the 22.7 million veterans, about the 5 million CCW holders, and the 1 million police and former police in this country. Even with the considerable overlap in these numbers, we approach 10 percent of the population that is armed and has some training with how to deal with violent criminals. I have not even mentioned the 40+ million hunters in the United States.

Ol’ Deadeye strikes again! You gotta watch those superannuated veterans, like shells unearthed at an old arsenal site, they’re still dangerous.

Hmmm, I don't have a permit to talk, pray, post comments online, peacefully assemble with like-minded individuals, write my thoughts,or my permit for a speedy trial by my peers. Do I need to take special classes and pay a registration 'fee' to have thise rights?

Well, beating on an 88 year old veteran who is a doctor is not a good survival strategy.

The very term “gun permit” is offensive to a free man.

The man does have a permit to carry the gun. Holding a permit is irrelevant in this case.
Bringing that up is just the liberals pushing of the concept that a government issued "permit" (privilege allowed to the peasants) is the norm, rather than the 2nd Amendment RIGHT of the people.

No doubt the perp was one of those Obamamites that infest inner-cities, naitonwide.
If Deetroit wasn't already a carbon-copy of Beirut, they'd probably burn it to the ground.....but they've already pretty much done that.

“...fired two shots, killing the suspect.”
Outstanding! I especially liked the part of all this occurring at the “Michigan Anti Cruelty Society”.
I’m not so happy about the use of the word “suspect”.

The very term gun permit is offensive to a free man. Concur! Any infringement on the RKBA is an abomination and should be challenged at every opportunity.

Needs to be repeated:
“I don’t have a permit to talk, pray, post comments online, peacefully assemble with like-minded individuals, write my thoughts,or my permit for a speedy trial by my peers. Do I need to take special classes and pay a registration ‘fee’ to have thise rights?”
Often.

You are absolutely correct -
Otherwise, we could possibly be reading a headline which says, “Thief shoots and kills 88 Year Old Man.”
To: marktwain
My Daddy was a double vet as well: World War II and veterinarian. God rest his soul.
I know exactly what he would say about this 88 year old man:
- Pay him bounty.
- Give him a medal for good shooting.
- Buy him more bullets.
