WASHINGTON - CBS News has obtained secretly recorded conversations that raise questions as to whether some evidence is being withheld in the murder of a Border Patrol agent.
(Scroll down to listen to the audio)
The tapes were recorded approximately mid-March 2011 by the primary gun dealer cooperating with ATF in its "Fast and Furious" operation: Andre Howard, owner of Lone Wolf Trading Company in Glendale, Arizona. He's talking with the lead case ATF case agent Hope MacAllister.
The tapes have been turned over to Congressional investigators and the Inspector General.
As CBS News first reported last February, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allegedly allowed thousands of weapons to "walk" onto the streets without interdiction into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels in its operation "Fast and Furious."
The conversations refer to a third weapon recovered at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
Agent: I was ordered to let guns into Mexico
Court records have previously only mentioned two weapons: Romanian WASR "AK-47 type" assault rifles. Both were allegedly sold to suspects who were under ATF's watch as part of Fast and Furious.

Now, now, now, folks...we all know that withheld tapes are only a crime if those dastardly repubwicans do it.
Silly rabbit, laws aren’t for liberals.
Depends on who made that tapes...the ATF scumbag or the dealer....
Drip, drip, drip....
Drudge? Hello? [crickets]
The killer part...........
Law enforcement sources and others close to the Congressional investigation say the Justice Department’s Inspector General obtained the audio tapes several months ago as part of its investigation into Fast and Furious.
Then, the sources say for some reason the Inspector General passed the tapes along to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona: a subject in the investigation. It’s unclear why the Inspector General, who is supposed to investigate independently, would turn over evidence to an entity that is itself under investigation. The Inspector General’s office had no immediate comment.
Sharyl Attkisson is a very good investigative reporter and has ripped Democrats in the past including John Murtha when no one else in the enemedia would lay a finger on them, I’m surprised CBS keeps her.
I could understand letting guns “walk” into Mexico. But what I didn’t understand is why they weren’t bugged with GPS so that when they got to the cartels, we couldn’t drop some 1,000 pound bombs on them, or follow the when they were being brought back across the border!
How difficult and expensive would it have been for our government to imbed these technical spying devices inside wooden AK stocks, or inside an AR15 plastic buttstock? Not very...
The laws may not be for liberals, but they damn sure better realize that it’s a doubled edged sword that will cut both ways.
They want to get this cleared up before the General Election campaigns get underway. That way it will be “old news” and can safely be ignored.
They’ve gotten the nod to take barry out....
The “two party” system in this country is a sham, like “pro” wrestling.
They just preach talking points to their respective choirs to give sheeple the false hope they are actually represented in our government.
I guess they still have a few real reporters left that they can’t shut up. They won’t last long.
It's "unclear."
They had "no immediate comment."
.
I wonder why CBS is doing this? Sorry I do not trust any of them!
This is outrageous. I’m reporting CBS to Attack Watch! http://my.barackobama.com/page/signup/o2012-attackwatch-report-an-attack
