Wisconsin education officials have ordered a high school to change its sports nickname from the Indians.
An alumnus of Berlin High School north of Milwaukee complained to the state Department of Public Instruction about the use of the nickname. That opened the door to the state ordering the school to change it.

Illinois is an offensive Indian-derived name. We need to change the name to either Madiganistan, or whatever the Algonquin Indian word is for “Corruption on the Prairie”.
Fine. They should change the name to “Siberian-Americans”.
First, all they need to do is convene a series of public meetings to decide on the new name or circulate petitions and qualify the name of their choice for the ballot.
Then (if the name finds consensus), they need to create funding for all of the legal work involved with changing incorporation documents and contracts that may include the offensive name. They should accept responsibility of paying for the changing of logos on the schools, the stadium, the basketball court, the scoreboards etc.
They will also have to pay for new uniforms and cheerleader outfits. Any schedules or posters already printed will need replacing, too.
It's all very simple, really. Those who are offended should bear all responsibility for making any changes needed. No expense or energy should be borne by anyone else.
How about the “Native Americans?”
Go Stormtroopers!
Illinois is the way the early French explorers/missionaries wrote hilinawe, which simply means “man” in the applicable Indian tongue. I didn’t know there were any derogatory connotations there. “Corruption on the Prairie” might require about sixteen syllables in Algonquin — these supposedly benighted tribes apparently had very little problem with that and wouldn’t have a short word for it. (Now killing raids upon their Indian neighbors, that would be another story. But hey, all men have weaknesses.)
How novel... wait, _I’m_ a “Native American”.
I was born here.
How about “Fightin’ Whiteys”?
Right . . . perhaps Berlin High School Poodles, or perhaps Buttercups.
There’s a street in Virginia Beach, VA called Witch Duck. The name dates back to colonial times when women accused of witchcraft were ducked under water to determine whether or not they were witches. I assume if they drowned that proved they were not witches. Are witches offended by the name?
Liberals don’t conserve, they destroy.
You’re right, a number of un-brainwashed Indians have no objection to Indian names for teams.
Not only is there a Witch Duck (or Witchduck) road, it leads into a bay called Witch Duck Bay (which is presumably where the duckings occurred). Brrr, they actually kept the name after all these centuries? I wonder if today they observe it with haunted houses and other Halloween paraphernalia all year long?
Change it to the Nic Cageians
Exactly.
I say don’t change the mascot. Change the anme of the school. I am offended that a school would be named Berlin. After that former Nazi - former Communist city in Germany?
Puh-leaze.
It reveals the actual motive of the libs: to destroy American traditions and memory of our past so as to effect the "fundamental change of America." The dissing of the founding fathers is part and parcel of this.
The Seminoles should also be remembered for giving America the expression “Yeehaw.” It was the Seminole/Creek word for “wolf” or “wolves” and was a rallying cry for their fighting braves.
...or the Mel Brooksians
And it reveals something else about libs — that they live to be offended or unhappy about something. They search it out. They seek it.
Exactly. And after we rename every mascot - every city and state that has an Indian name - so as to not offend Indians...
We need to start on Christian cities and states. I live in San Antonio. And I don’t want to offend (sarc) any non-Christians. So we MUST start a drive to change the name of our city to something less offensive.
Mohammed-ville works for me.
(still sarc!!)
