......One was born into a privileged family in a tony Michigan suburb; the other, onto a flat expanse of West Texas dirt with no indoor plumbing. One spent his youth tooling around his fathers car factory; the other, selling Bibles door-to-door so he could afford to buy a car. One excelled at Harvard University, simultaneously earning law and business degrees and swiftly climbing the corporate ladder; the other, his hope of becoming a veterinarian dashed when he flunked organic chemistry at Texas A&M University, joined the Air Force. [Perry graduated from A&M]
Where Mitt Romney is obedient and cautious, Rick Perry is bombastic and spontaneous. If they had attended the same high school, they probably would have hung out at opposite ends of the hallway. Their relationship today is said to be frosty, if there is one at all.
In every single possible way, they come from different worlds, said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, who advised Romney in his 2008 race but is neutral this time. You can see the playbook pretty clearly here: its populist against patrician; its rural Texas steel against unflappable Romney coolness; conservative versus center-right establishment; Texas strength versus Romneys imperturbability; Perrys simplicity versus Romneys flexibility.
.... Romney is campaigning as a steady, capable grown-up who can fix anything that needs fixing; Perry, as a passionate, principled leader who can channel the ire of a frustrated electorate.
The twin forces within the Republican Party are neatly manifested in the two candidates. Romney represents both the partys upper-crust establishment and the state Massachusetts that for so long has been the GOPs boogeyman. Perry represents the angry grassroots that are giving the party new energy and he personifies the state Texas that for a generation has been the GOPs soul.........

That's proof you don't know what you;re talking about. That's a "talking point."
Read post 67. That has always been my definition of a troll since I joined this site in 97 and still is. Also I don’t ping anyone. If I disagree with something I say so. I love 100 yards from Mexico and I can see what Perry has encouraged. The border has been a disaster his whole time in office and he only gives voice to it never action. The last straw was back when AZ law came out and he immediatly distanced himself from it because he was going to run for Gov again and did not want hispanics to be mad at him. He has done nothing but pander to them his whole time in office.
And I know far more of what I am talking about than you ever will. That you support a liberal like Perry proves it.
What does China have to do with this, Liz? LOL That is plain dumb. Vetting candidates is a good thing. I like vetting candidates. Rick Perry has been vetted for years. He was elected three times as Governor of Texas and has served honorably for 11 years. Over that time frame I've read all the relevant and outstanding news items about Perry. So far, I seen a lot of frivolous posts personally attacking Perry. Along with innuendo, rumor and gossip but nothing that would disqualify him from being the GOP nominee or potus.
Any objective observer of politics right now understands with Cain fading fast and Bachmann in full meltdown this race is quickly boiling down to a choice between either the liberal Romney or the conservative Perry. If the choice is between those two, I'll take Perry. How about you?
Good move.
You can’t seem to decide if Perry is more like GWB...or McCain. You know not...
They want Perry because they know with his similarities to Bush he will be easy for Obama to beat. Just the fact that he is a Texas governor will be enough to convince most; democrats arent the smartest people on the planet, you know.
Don't you think a comparison between Bush and Perry is more reasonable than a comparison between Bush and McCain? The comparison between Bush and McCain hurt McCain's chances of winning just as a similar comparison will hurt Perry.
If Perry gets the nomination be prepared for two things, 1) Obama and the DNC will say to elect Perry would be like 4-more years of Bush and 2) we will see another 4-years of Obama.
I support Rick Perry and I am neither a troll or a fool. I happen to be a reasonable adult who has an opinion and an open mind. I have been reading these posts on Freerepublic for 12 or 13 years.
The people who jump on these threads and bash not only Perry but the people who speak favorably
of him are the most hateful I’ve ever seen.
You have no clue about how to carry on an intelligent conversation.
You can’t even answer a question or a comment without calling someone a name. You sound like a Chuck Schumer democrat.
shield- Troll definition: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.
Looks like my definition of disruptor is similar to shield's definition of troll.
Thanks carjic, I appreciate your input.
Your original post said Perry was the guy they wanted to REPLACE Obama, not lose to him. Get your story striaght.
You can’t seem to comprehend the simple fact that it isn’t what I think it’s what democRATs think and they will draw the same comparison with GWB and Perry as they did GWB and McCain. They already have.
Yes, it was a humorous comment in response to the Trojan horse post. You do understand humor, don’t you?
Look in the mirror, idiot!
Supporting a Democrat Trojan Horse is troll behavior, whether or not you like it.
Your mind is way too open to absurd propaganda and closed to the facts about the greatest threat that has ever been posed by a “Republican” candidate.
We need someone to literally save the country, not someone who will turn it into Texas II; we already are spending trillions on our illegal ‘immigrants,” and caving to the global corporazi that want to slice the country up by the misuse of emminent domain.
We also do not need another “Clip-on” christian president.
I guess I didn’t recognize it because humor is usally funny.
There you go again. I’m not an idiot either. Can you speak to someone without sounding like a grade school bully?
I will vote for whomever I want to and if you have someone in mind that you think can do better, name them.
I will listen and if they sound good I will do my own research. But I will NOT consider Ron Paul, Romney, Bachman, Gingrich.
If you cannot name someone else then shut the hell up until you can behave like a civilized person instead of a neaderthal.
You are in a delusional frenzy of self inflicted hatred. You have extrapolated false premisses beyond all bounds of reality.
It is sad that we are in such a state of suspended rationality this soon..
Scrape the glaze off of your eyes.
You cant seem to comprehend the simple fact that what democRATs think isn't important.
They won't be voting for the Repub nominee regardless!
It is fly paper.
There is but one candidate that is not bound by commitments that disable her candidacy. One single, highly effective, honest, and motivated candidate: Palin
All of the other dreck that waste tv time on false debates about irrelevent issues, and make meaningless promises while billing their state treasuries for their campaign expenses lead to the inevitable collapse of American soverignty.
There is no squirm room; drastic measures are required, and there is only one that will initiate them, at the possible risk of her own life.
