TORONTO, ON, September 16, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A father of a six-year-old student in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) says he was shocked to discover what the school board considers to be Days of Significance, reports the Toronto Sun.
In the Days of Significance calendar in his sons 2011-12 daily planner, Jaak Purres discovered days devoted to transgendered people, prostitution, gender identity, and Dyke marches.
I was looking through this thing and was shocked, said the outraged father. Its just bizarre! Hes six. I want him to enjoy being six.
Purres pointed out that the planner comes from a school that goes only till the 5th grade, so they are not going to be able to say it was in there for the older kids either. I just dont get it because the kids in first grade can read.
Spokesperson for the school board Shari Schwartz-Maltz said that the planner is not consistent with what is in most readers throughout the board, reported the Toronto Sun.
However, the Days of Significance calendar is available on the boards own website.
Since news about the planner broke, Chris Bolton, the Chair of the Toronto District School Board, has apologized for the distribution of the planner.
“Any distribution of the agenda books in the schools has been stopped until we get to the bottom of this,” said Bolton, according to NewsTalk 1010.
Among the Days of Significance celebrated in the planner are:
International Transgender Day of Remembrance: November 19th.
This day is set aside to memorialize those who were killed because of transphobia: anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The day also provides an opportunity to acknowledge one of the most common reasons students are bullied and harassed: their gender identity/expression. Staff and Students are encouraged to create awareness and organize actions with the goal of ending transphobia.
International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers: December 17th.
In respect of sex work, this day aims at bringing attention to the sufferings of sex workers who lack access to clean safe places to work.
International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia: May 17th.
This day addresses the challenges faced by the LGBTTQ [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-spirited, and Queer] community who still experience discrimination, harassment and persecution. The bulletin for the day points out that homophobia and other forms of gender-based violence remain a serious concern for many TDSB schools.
LGBTQ Pride Week: June 23rd.
This day brings support to the concept that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersexed, and two spirited (LGBTTQQI2S) people should be proud of their sexual orientation and gender identity. The bulletin for the day mentions that sexual orientation and gender identity are inherent and cannot be intentionally altered.
The Days of Significance also include Wiccan seasonal festivals with instructions for rites and ritual practices.

It sounds like a typical school year in Massachusetts!
LOL! Yep, that acronym seems to keep growing and growing. And, just what the heck is “two-spirited”? That’s a new one on me.
In my opinion, any parent who sends their children to public school is, essentially, a child abuser.
I have become sick of hearing the excuse “We can’t afford it.” A loving parent can afford it. A parent who truly loves his or her children can afford anything he or she has to in order to keep them safe. The mother and father of a family which has an income too low to pay for private school after living expenses are taken out should work two or three jobs and/or slash their living expenses or both to make that tuition payment. When we became parents, my spouse and I decided that we would sell our house, wear rags, eat out of a dumpster, whore ourselves out to truckers, or do anything else we had to do in order to avoid sending our innocent children to public school. We still hold to that decision. I beg all of you who have minor children to make the same commitment.
HOW DARE HE!!!!!
Didn't some Ivy League A-hole study conclude that white kids become racist by age 3? Maybe they also develop all the other 'phobias' by that time too. The libs gotta learn 'em young!
No problem. Well said.
Paganism is back...
Yes these are the things elementary school kids should be getting excited about. I wonder what they are going to be doing for crafts those days?” Susi what did you do at school today? Mommy look I drew a picture of a pretty sex worker!”
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, 2 Spirited.
Intersex is one born with ambiguous genitalia due to birth defect.
2 Spirited is something to do with Native Americans who take on gender roles of both men and women--I don't know why they get their own category.
As far as I can deduce, Transgender seems to be a cross-dresser, contented with their body but not the associated gender roles, while a Transexual is one who wants to change their physical body.
Queer appears to be a "catch all" and "Questioning" are those who don't know what they are.
It is sad that on an unabashedly Christian web site, this is the only comment your post is likely to receive.
God Bless.
Romans 1:20-31
IMHO, ignorance is bliss ;-)
Which means...
"Who the Hell let this get out to the PARENTS!?!? We're supposed to indoctrinate the kids WITHOUT them knowing!"
Apparently, not enough. The frequency of such articles is growing in volume, as is the gravity of the content. What alarms me most is the spread and implementation of this philosophy around the globe. Each story leaves me feeling like a deer in the headlights.
These children are going to be a bunch of dummies because they are not being taught grammar, history, math, etc.
Santayana, the poet, reminds us that "history repeats itself".
Chapter 1 of the Book of Ecclesiastes, however, best addresses the shortsightedness of humans.
9 What has been, that will be; what has been done, that will be done. Nothing is new under the sun!e10
Even the thing of which we say, “See, this is new!” has already existed in the ages that preceded us.f11
There is no remembrance of past generations;g nor will future generations be remembered by those who come after them.*
And to think it all started with a modest, unassuming G for gay. Dictionary publishers will be hard pressed to keep up. Does anyone pronounce LGBT as “luggbutt”?
When do they get around to a Day of Remembrance for Persecuted Christians? And does the school have any formal recognition of Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day?
I thought not.
