Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Manhattan's financial district on Saturday in a largely peaceful protest aimed at drawing attention to the role powerful financial interests played in wreaking havoc on America's economy.

Modeled on the "Arab Spring" uprisings that swept through Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and other countries this year, Occupy Wall Street is a "leaderless resistance movement" orchestrated through Twitter, Facebook and other social media tools. The Twitter hashtag #OccupyWallStreet lit up Saturday with coordination messages and solidarity tweets.

What is wrong with kids today? They can’t even put on a simple demonstration.

Now in my day....

One of my brothers invested in BP a few years ago, when prices started going up. He said, whatever happened, it was a win/win. Either he would win at the pump when the prices went down, or at the market when profits went up. :-)

#occupywallstreet. Help there are brainless hippies
camping out by my front door. If I offer them soap,
will they go away?

LOL. That’s a good one! I have to confess to having similar thoughts, although a dividend stream helps to pay for some of my monthly gas bill. Go into Yahoo Finance and look at a ‘max’ chart of XOM. :)

Well, I think I've found Zero's problem right there...no abilities!

Cheers!

I was wondering why Huffpost wasn't headlining this event....

If CNN says “hundreds” then it’s more like dozens.

Protestors gathered in lower Manhattan for what they called a Day of Action Against Global Capital.

I'm trying to think of a country where there's no capitalism...a country without capitalism that would give them a job...and I can't think of one. Maybe a slave labour camp in North Korea is what they want?

Haven`t they been talking about this for MONTHS? I would love to read the moans of the DUmmies or KOS types as they wail over the utter failure of yet another of their foolish social gatherings disguised as political action. A bunch of political Trekkies playing dress-up.

These people are so pathetic. If we didn’t have a pathetic loser in the White House who agrees with them, I wouldn’t give them a second thought.

In watching the live feed, here are some observations....

First observation— there are a lot of white people at this rally. In fact, I haven’t seen much diversity in the crowd. Age range seems to be 20ish to 30ish. Lot of on-lookers.

Second observation— they have broken the crowd down into smaller groups with mega-phones at each group and they are group thinking. Question: what is the main problem in America?

Third observation— theme keeps coming forward of “corporate personhood.” “Dollars have replaced our voice.”

Fourth observation— the Anonymous group just issued a warning to law enforcement. They said for them not to use excessive force on anyone, or we will come to their aid. And to the rest, they said, Quote: “We are not as different as you think, we are you, we are anonymous, we are legion. We do not forgive, we do not forget, expect us.”

Currently, they are “marching around the perimeter” and after that they are going to break for dinner at 6pm and then get back together. The crowd has grown, but it is difficult to tell how many are actual protesters, and how many are on-lookers. A roving camera has interviewed folks. One guy was a Ron Paul supporter, and one guy said most of the crowd is hard left, but if “normal” people would come down, it could be an effective situation. Of course, anarchists are out in force, carrying red flags. And some type of Spanish influence group is walking around with masks on that look like theatre masks. I’m not sure what their agenda is. Overall, the crowd still remains majority white, tinted with olive, and very few of other races. Professionally printed signs are beginning to show themselves, but haven’t been able to read any of them yet.

At 7pm they will begin with another round of talks, which will be more “educational” in nature, one guy said. Also, at 7pm they are going to discuss renaming the park they are “occupying” and they are in the process of calling the “corporation” that owns the property, to make sure it is “okay” for them to “spend the night there.” (That’s sticking it to ‘em! LOL Rather ironic.)

I guess they will be showing propaganda images on the live stream until 7pm. That’s what is on right now. Evil gov’t, evil military, evil corporations...etc. Progressive blather. There have been several mentions of “world ordered socialism is a great thing.”

Chants being yelled during march time...

Whose street? Our street!

The people united will never be defeated.

The people are we.

Eat the rich. Feed the poor.

What do you want? Equality. When do you want it? Now.

We are the 99%.

Wall Street banks, you get high, we can see your greedy side.

We got sold out, they got bailed out.

"People Need Jobs!" And how is standing on a New York City street on a Saturday afternoon yelling at empty buildings going to accomplish that?

I bet they stand at doors and yell "Open Sesame" too. Perhaps one opened for them like that at Wal-Mart and they figured 'Hey, mebbe I can get me a job that way.'

Nice report...and no mention of their hero...the one who promised them everything and gave them nothing?
Odd, that.

It has recently been brought to the protestors attention that plaza they currently occupy, and planned on sleeping in, is actually private property.
