MINNEAPOLIS -- Eleanor Mondale, a vice president's daughter who carved out her own identity as a broadcast journalist and gossip magnet, has died at her home in Minnesota. She was 51.
Family spokeswoman Lynda Pedersen says Mondale died Saturday.
Mondale had been diagnosed with brain cancer years earlier.
The daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale and his wife, Joan, Eleanor Mondale had been off the air at WCCO-AM in Minneapolis since March 2009. That's when she announced her brain cancer had returned a second time.
Mondale had surgery to remove the tumor in August 2009. After surgery, she returned to her Prior Lake farm, where she lived with her third husband, musician Chan Poling (PAHL'-ing).

Cancer is evil. R.I.P.
Eleanor was Clinton's main squeeze for a while when he was President. I think Monica was VERY Jealous of her.
“Its a terrible thing when a parent has to bury a child.”
You have no idea. My daughter and only child died suddenly in October, 2009. She left a husband and 18 month old daughter. We will never get over it.
Oh man.....Maureen Reagan was a CLASS ACT!!! I loved watching her on C=Span.
Lost my sister, only sibling at 54. Small cell lung cancer. We think it may have been radon exposure, but it’s speculation. Still not over that.
Prayers for the Mondale family.
Prayers up for the family.
*PING* to those who want to pray for the family...?
...and any Catholics who pray for the departed
That is awful, only 51.
RIP
And a third tie-in: Sen. Charles Percy has died, who himself lost an adult daughter.
‘...My daughter and only child died suddenly in October, 2009..’
Please accept my deepest condolences. I pray for strength for you and your daughter’s family.
I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine the pain you must feel. Lean on the Lord, the only one that can sustain us. God bless you.
Very sad. Prayers being said.
I’m very sorry for your loss.
Knowing how devastating it was to lose my parents, I cant even begin to contemplate the horror of losing a child. Nor do I want to.
May The Lord comfort and keep you and yours.
Sincerely,
Mark
In 1998, CBS News reported that Mondale was one of four women Monica Lewinsky expressed resentment toward in taped conversations because of attention President Bill Clinton paid to them. (Mondale issued a statement saying her relationship with the president and his wife, Hillary, was “purely a friendship.”)
She is in my age group. When she was young I found her strikingly pretty. I’m sorry she has passed and gone through such an ordeal. I’m sorry for the Mondale family.
51 is too young to die.
Especially since I am 57. When I look at that number (57) I realize I am on the "other half." May they both rest in peace.
Our son died almost ten years ago. Left a young, pregnant bride. His lovely daughter is now nine, his wife remarried to a fine guy. Life goes on, but there are days when I wonder how we do it.
I often think of this old poem:
They will not grow old,
as we that are left grow old.
Age will not weary them, nor
the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and
in the morning,
We will remember them.
One of the Kennedy girls just died at 51 too.
She was beautiful.
