Mitt Romney can can beat Obama, say Florida political insiders (GOP establishment picks Romney)
The St. Petersburg Times / Politico ^ | 2011-09-15 | Adam C. Smith

Florida’s most experienced political professionals are closely divided on whether Rick Perry or Mitt Romney will win Florida’s Republican presidential primary, but overwhelmingly they see Romney as the stronger candidate to beat Barack Obama in Florida.

More than 100 of Florida’s sharpest political minds participated in the latest St. Petersburg Times Florida Insider Poll - including campaign consultants, lobbyists, activists - and the results were striking: Two thirds of Democrats and two thirds of Republicans pegged Romney as the stronger general election candidate, though Republicans were considerably more confident than Democrats that Perry would win Florida’s crucial presidential primary early next year.

Half the Republicans predicted Romney would win the primary and 41 percent predicted Perry. Among Democrats, 56 percent expected Perry to win the primary and 37 percent said Romney.

"Lets face it, Rick Perry is comfort food! Like pot roast, mashed potatoes, and extra gravy it feels good going down, then comes indigestion in the morning. Mitt is more of a balanced diet, high on vegtables, low on sweets, a recipe that is likely to win the blue ribbon on election day," said one Republican.

Every one of our candidates would be better than Obambi, but every one of them also comes with a fair amount of baggage.

The American people do not like Obama, but many of them still hate Republicans too. This will not be a slam dunk by any means.

We have a tough choice to make, but unless there is a surprise entrant, it is hard to see it coming down to anyone outside of Perry or Romney.

Perrys world view and past decisions are pebbles on the road compared to Obama, Romney and Huntsman.

Newt also carrys more baggage.

The others have a chance but it is a slim chance with no record or funds.
Obama only won with no record because he was bankrolled and he projected the shame of racism.

Let the primarys play out.
We’ll find our candidate.
I just hope we can beat their money machine and ownership of the press.

The city dog catcher should be able to beat Obama in theory.

Agree 100% Romney is a sure loser in the general election.

There would no doubt be a third party challenge from the right, and that person would win a LOT of votes.

Wonder if those Florida "experts" are taking that into consideration?

Florida’s most experienced political professionals are idiots. They don’t call it the stupid party for nothing. Romney is the only Republican running guaranteed to lose to Obama.

Yup.

See post #40. According to the available data, Perry is beats both Obama and Romney in Florida.

Florida has taken a hard right turn. You would think the election of Rick Scott would have given the "Florida political insiders" a clue.

- - - -
That I agree with. However, I will take a conservative with little or no political experience (like Cain) over a moderate/liberal/RINO with even 20 years political experience. Worldview matters to me, which is why Romney and Huntsman are both out along with some of the others.

Romney is being bankrolled and that is my biggest concern. He has donors with very deep pockets and I know a few things that would lead me to suspect financial support of an organization that is not beyond creating business donors for him just to get him the nomination.

FWIW, my biggest problem with Perry is the illegal immigration issue and the Gardrasil fiasco.

Mitt can't win. I don't care what the polls say. He will lose because he can not be trusted. He's John Kerry except that he's not a traitor. He also strapped his dog to the roof of his car. That will kill his chances.

There are two electable candidates. One is moderate to conservative center-right. Rick Perry. The other is liberal. Jon Huntsman. Both are governors who can run on the economy. I know what I'm going to get from either of them. Perry has my support. Huntsman I'll only vote for if he's the nominee.

Perry has his hands tied on illegal immigration by the feds and he has delicate issues with a 38% Hispanic populous.

While gardasil was a technical blunder I dont think its that big of a deal.

The TTC pissed me off and I almost voted against him based on that.
But we do need the roads and somebody has to pay for it.
I really hated the idea that money was going to Cintas rather than staying in state.

I almost pulled the leaver for Kinky Friedman over that, but I voted Perry and I am glad I did.

Because outside of Newt and Cain nobody else is poking Obama in the chest at all.

Romney as the stronger candidate to beat Barack Obama in Florida.

Somehow we have to break the East coast Parlor Republicans of running the show. It's Romney's turn, just like it was McCain and Dole and both Bushs. They take turns win or lose.

This is our election and can't allow these fools to pick our candidate.

Yeah, like they picked Crist.

We screamed about Crist, but the good ol boys in the party didn’t pay one drop of attention.

Last election they put McCain in - I remember Crist grabbing McCain in a Press Conference the day before the election and suddenly McCain was the man.

Hubris.

These people never learn....Romney can win just like McCain, Doyle and Bush I after the world figured him out to be a rino.

The stupid party loves to repeat history and never learns.

I wish the country club republicans in control of the party would get a brain.

IT’S UNANIMOUS FOR ROMNEY

Carville(D):
"It's a feel-good story, this Romney thing.
Romney is an ascendant guy
."

Sen. John Kerry (D) to Don Imus on RomneyCARE:
"I like this health care bill".

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D) on RomneyCARE:
"To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable."

Mitt Romney wins much coveted Jimmy Carter endorsement
