Veteran Cops Recognize ‘Fast and Furious’ as a Foolhardy Idea
Pajamas Media ^ | September 15, 2011 | Jack Dunphy

Cops expect to face risks on the job. What they do not expect, what they cannot accept, is when their superiors have a hand in providing the weapons that others will use to kill them.

I have withheld judgment on Operation Fast and Furious until now. Surely, I thought, there would emerge some explanation for what on first reading appeared to be a staggering level of stupidity and incompetence on the part of some in the ATF and the Justice Department. They could not possibly, I hoped, have been that obtuse. Having been a police officer for as long as I have, I should have known better.

Every front-line cop has had this experience: A change in command brings in some new suit eager to show he’s full to bursting with the right stuff, that he is not just another office-bound bureaucrat content with doing things the same old things in the same old way. He promises his full support for the troops as he speaks of his willingness to innovate in crime-fighting tactics and to “think outside the box.” All well and good, but as those front-line cops know, that box is there for a reason, and thinking too far outside it can get people killed.

And that’s what happened with Fast and Furious.

Amazing that NOBODY at the top of the DOJ screamed out in protest about what an IDIOTIC idea "Fast & Furious" was. Oh, and I am sure that Eric Holder was not only fully aware of this stupid operation but helped plan it.

FYI

BTW, I would love to see someone like Joseph Wambaugh write a book about this moronic operation.

The gun shops that were pulled into F&F were told this was for purposes of stings. What a big fat lie — no gun runner no matter how blatant was stung. The idea was to create international scandal for political purposes, and devil may care about the lives lost along the way.

Fast and Furious was not about tracking firearms. It was about creating public support for anti gun legislation.

Even the homeless people who collect bottles and cans to exchange them for the deposit understand the sort of chain of causality you need to track and trace high powered firearms.

The crew we talked about a couple of weeks ago who used food stamps to get bottles to empty to trade in had a far better grasp of AUDIT TRAIL than the DOJ big domes who ran "Fast & Furious".

Wordsmithing is deliberate. Botched, foolhardy, il-fated, etc.....

The real word is as you say, felonious or illegal.

“What they do not expect, what they cannot accept, is when their superiors have a hand in providing the weapons that others will use to kill them.”

It's a habit with this regime. Just ask our troops.

They've deliberately handed over weapons caches to the Taliban - made our troops just walk off fire base and leave them - and the Taliban boasted they would use them to kill our troops - and they have.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uj6sRlzgik&feature=fvwrel

These are two accounts that have made it out - how many more were there? After all, did you hear about these on OUR media?

I'm quite familiar with what our troops suffered in this area - the same area in which Sgt Meyer, who received the MOH today, fought - and the same valley where SSgt Giunta fought that resulted in his MOH.

Our traitorous regime pulled our troops out after all their fighting and sacrifices (with this regime and it's ROE’s being as big an enemy as the Taliban) pulled them out of the valleys of the Kunar, left the weapon caches for the enemy and allowed the Taliban over a year to regroup and dig in to the entire province stronger than ever and NOW, this regime is sending our troop BACK in - with even LESS forces - to fight a much stronger and firmly entrenched enemy...more and stronger than EVER BEFORE. (Over 63% of our trops killed in the 10 yrs in the 'Ghan have been under obama's watch. And you hear NOTHING!

And none stand up and say: TREASON

My stomach turns every time I see this puke in the WH even in the same room with any of our troops. Of course, that doesn't happen often as he despises our military.

Yeah... I think far from stupid... If the truth is ever told we will find that corrupt individuals in this administration were funneling weapons to favored ‘pharmaceutical’ cartels to assist them in their battles/war with Policia Federal, other cartels, and Border Patrol, thus facilitating more drugs sales/profits in US... Yes. I believe factions of our government are complicit in the drug trade. A tangential benefit would be to blame the gun owners in the US of the gun running and erode the 2nd Amendment - that was the plan before a patriot stood up and threw a wrench in their plan - thank God.

I believe that the purpose of this entire operation was to create a “crisis” so the feds could shut down gun dealers and erode our 2nd amendment rights, if not end them all together. Nothing less.

Because Holder and Zero don’t give a RATS ass about the street cops or Sheriffs out in the middle of nowhere that have to face these weapons.

It’s just that simple. They had this great plan to get people to DEMAND Gun Control, but they got caught.

Too many years of serving as a police officer subservient to the officers above him has apparently rendered the author blind to this obvious fact.

The operation was intended to result in dead bodies, no bodies = no outrage to exploit to repeal our RKBA “under the radar”.

Any attempt to curtail the 2nd Amendment is treason, and anyone who took part knowingly cannot hide behind the excuse of “just following orders.” Add to that the mounting death toll, and we’re probably way beyond the minimal requirements for the death penalty. I think many understand that, and are furiously circling the wagons with that thought in mind.

IMO, speedy trials and public hangings - with the corpses left hanging for the crows - would be fitting. Anything less, and we’ll be revisiting this scandal in another decade.
