Michigan Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, is pushing for a Right-to-Work law that would allow unionized school teachers to leave their union.
As a teacher in the Grand Ledge Public Schools and a former teachers union president, John Ellsworth says the various education reforms coming from Michigan’s Republican-led government are “despicable.” He thinks the much-talked about “right-to-teach” legislation for public school employees, which would make joining a teachers union voluntary, is part of “a continued attack” blaming teachers for school woes.
Yet, even Ellsworth says he would drop his Michigan Education Association membership if right-to-work for teachers became a reality...
Depending upon what districts would be willing to offer to teachers who declined union representation, Ellsworth estimated that somewhere between 10 percent and 40 percent of teachers would bolt from the MEA.
The reason? He says some don’t think they are getting real value from the $90 per month in union dues he says they pay.

“Why not take the money and run?” Ellsworth said. “… There are a lot of people upset they are sending their money to East Lansing (MEA headquarters) and not getting a whole lot for it.”

Maybe there is hope for Michigan yet. I left in 1996 for Florida but miss the weather, family, fall leaves & the cider mills but hated the taxes.
Now if they reduce the taxes, get rid of the unions, be able to fire bad teachers maybe I’ll think about moving back in a few years.
Almost $800.00 dollars a year for Union dues. I would leave also. Considering that they are forced to join in the first place.

my union gives me nothing except a representative at negotiating time...no "SUB" pay like steelworkers, or food bank, or anything like that....
but what hacks me off the worse is our PAC....absolutely leftist and even though they don't use union dues supposedly to finance the pac, they do use our good name and our reputation making it seem like we collectively support their idiocy...

Here, they’re admitting that they are FORCING 40% of their members to be members against their will.
A while back, one of the chief race baiters was saying that the ‘rats would lose around 11% of the vote if voterID was enforced, thereby admitting an 11% fraudulent voting rate in their favor.
When the new non union members start flaunting their extra spending money with new clothes, new shoes, new cars, etc., you can bet that number will swell to 90+% in a New York minute.

Of course, these union members have profited from the ability of the Union to extort higher wages and benefits. Why do you think the salaries and benefits for public school teachers are about 50% higher than private school teachers?
NO, it is part of the correct blaming teacher UNIONS for the school woes...... My wife is a teacher and I can tell you the Union mentality infects the work environment. Her worst time of the day is going to lunch and having to hear of the bit*hing. Other than that, she love teaching.
