Perry courts religious voters, calls for defense of ‘Christian values’

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Republican presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry used his speech to a packed audience at the conservative evangelical Liberty University to discuss his own faith — and to call for more Christian influence on America.

(snip)

“It is important that [pastors] stand in the pulpit every day and defend those values, those Christian values,” Perry said. “America is going to be guided by some set of values — the question is going go to be — whose values? I believe that … it’s the Christian values that this country was based upon.”

(snip)

“Don’t muzzle your voice because you’re young,” he said. “You have the right, like every American, to speak your right. You have the right to insist on change, to tell the people in power that you will not have your inheritance spent or your future mortgaged. This country is your country as well. Don’t leave it to a bunch of Washington politicians to tell you how to live your life. This is your future that we are debating today. Don’t be silent.”

The man doesn't edit himself and he's not in the least bit afraid to say what needs to be said. He has to know that the left/MSM/elites are going to try to hang him with his own words, but he doesn't seem to care.

This type of chutzpah - courage really - is one reason why I'm drawn to him.

There’s only one kind of chutzpah that matters now.

It’s the toughest kind to have—fighting against corruption.

Yes - defend those values persistently and in the strongest possible way.

We need this country back.

Corruption was man’s original enemy, and we see it today, everywhere, in different forms.

To 1 - *APPLAUSE*

We also can be assured that Rick Perry won't trot out a pro-abort homo (like Palin does with Tammy Bruce) as an exemplar of conservatism,

I find it ironic and funny. If the left thinks they’re casting a candidate in a bad light by using words like ‘Christian’, ‘values’, ‘pro life’, ‘pro family’, etc... they’re quite wrong.

I have found most times if the article has been posted within a few hours of each other the search engine will not pull it up. I have also found if the article is posted weeks earlier it still will not pull it up. So double post will happen easily.

I agree with what Perry said. However, I question IF he really believes this himself or is he just attempting to coop Conservative Evangelicals like myself. My “gut” says he is not to be trusted....you are being played for a fool. I honestly HOPE that I am WRONG about this assesment of the man....but I’m still being very careful. I cannot see into the man’s heart...only God can do so. However, my spirit says there is something wrong here.....this man makes me uneasy. IF my perceptions are wrong, I hope I will see this soon. Right now, except in a general election, I cannot back Perry. I don’t trust him, I perceive him as a phoney. I fully acknowledge I could be really wrong about this.

I supported Huckabee in 2008 while many said he was a phoney. He never made me nervous about his sincerity. I think time has shown Huckabee to have been sincere and not a sell out. However, something about Perry...like I keep saying...doesn’t quite sound right.

Yes, and Sarah caved too quickly as Governor of Alaska over a homosexualtiy issue. I think she doesn’t have that firm of convictions about the utter wrongness of homosexual conduct. However, I’m not sure I trust Perry as really being what he claims either. Something about him doesn’t ring right. Of course, I could be wrong about him and Palin.

I don't want a POTUS that will implement Christian Values.

I want to know, specifically, what those policies will be.

Statements like that scare the hell out of me and should scare everyone...Christians especially.

Mormon values? Jehovas Witness values? Baptist? AOG? Lutheran? Methodist?

That statement could be interpreted to mean allowing homo marriage or outlawing alcohol...even BOTH.

I don’t think this was a campaign event. It was scheduled a few months ago, before he was running.

In fact, his RPV appearance today in Richmond was also scheduled before he decided to run — it was a fundraising effort for our Virginia 2011 elections. Bob McDonnell said today that when he heard his good friend Perry was coming to Lynchberg to give a speech to the students about applying their Christian values to politics, Bob asked him to do a fundraiser, and Perry agreed.

Later apparently when Perry decided to run for President, Bob said it would have made sense to cancel the RPV fundraiser, but Perry wanted to help out.

It is difficult these days, and past days, to define and know what are Christian values. I have little problem with the term in so far as it alludes to values given in/by the Holy Bible.

There are basic Christian values as in the Bible. It doesn't involve outlawing alcohol, but considering drunkenness as immoral. Secondly, more to the point -- I don't care if a person is gay, do what you like in the privacy of your home, just don't have your gay pride parades waggling your perversion in my kids' face. Also, if they want "civil unions" -- ok, it's a government thing, but Marriage to me is a Sacrament, so that's off the cards.

Finally, abortion -- I call it killing and at the very least government should not be involved in sponsoring this -- I personally would want to see it banned except in the case of it endangering a mother's life, not as a form of birth control.

So yer sayin you'd be more comfortable with a murdering atheist like Pol Pot, Stalin or Hitler?

Or maybe a murdering moslem, like Achmedidjerdog?

Murder is not a "Christian value".
