I was so disappointed in Rick Perry's two Debate performances. The guy was so friggin' unprepared for both. And, people who watched the Debates objectively, know what so many of us who are Texans have known for years; Rick Perry is a light-weight.
FReepers, we need a candidate who can take out Obama in the Debates and Perry is not that man. Obama will wipe the floor with him, and besides, Perry has too friggin' much baggage; which I will list, in part, below:
1. The SS Ponzi Scheme thing plays well among "red-meat" Conservatives but wll not play well in the General Election.
2. His "soft" approach to Illegal Immigration and past statements about supporting Bush's "Amnesty" program will not cause the anti-Obama voters to get excited about showing up on Election Day.
3. The Guardasil debacle.
4. And, all the "sweet deals" he has cut for campaign donors in his 22 years as a "Professional Politician" has not yet began to surface.
We must remember, beating Obama is our Goal and our Mission. This is not the time to try to "send a message". The only message we need to send the first Tuesday of November 2012 is: "Pack up and get out of the White House, Barry." I'm telling you, we need to wise up; this guy cannot beat B.H.O.
Your points are all well-taken. I just am not sure that any of these issues will have nearly as much impact on the election as job creation will. On that count, Perry looks pretty darn good.
First issue is “Can he beat Obama?’
Second issue is ‘Can he convince people of the truth about things that matter?’
I have no prediction on the first. If so then he should be supported. But on the latter he is a disaster. Dude is another Bush.
Plus he is as phony as a $ 3 bill .
The one single thing that will sink Perry is immigration. Right there he’s done.
And don’t believe the polls. He may lead Romney nationally but it’s irrelevant. What matters is Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina (at first). Romney is kicking his butt in all those states.
Regardless we have to remember, any of the candidates in the GOP will far exceed Obummer.
You don’t like Perry? Fine. Then stick with Mitt. Or is RoPaul your boy?
(Hey. You DID say you’re ready to take your licks...)
And your point is well taken. But, Social Security is “the issue” among the elderly.....AND THEY VOTE. Some folks on Hannity last night said they had already changed their mind about supporting Perry because he is soft on Illegal Immigration. And, as a Texan, I can tell you, he is. If the dolt would have had the smarts to explain it better, he could have turned the Immigration thing into a bonus rather than a bust. But, he’s not that smart.
True. We don’t need any more Sweet Deals.
We need to get rid of the permanent political class.
When you’re openly supporting non-candidate Sarah Palin for President, anything you have to say that trashes the candidates in the race is suspect at best.

If Sarah were to enter the race, I’d give her serious consideration over Perry. That being said, I’m not the one writing anti-Perry cr@p on this site while pretending to be a neutral observer instead of a Palin cheerleader.
Luckily we are voting for President, and not a debate captain.
The thing that deters me from supporting Perry is the social security thing. You know Obama is going to demagogue that to death. Perry may be right but it’s a lost cause in so many ways.
Yeah, I’ll take my licks, but, it would be nice to take my licks from someone who can give an intelligent reason for disagreeing with me; which you apparently cannot. You’re a lot like your boy Perry in that regard..... light-weight.
I’ve only got two words for ya, Sir.
HORSE HOCKEY!
I agree, Rick Perry (like capitalism) is the worst... except for all the rest!
“O.K., I’m ready to take my licks. Let me have it. “
The problem is that we’re going to get Romney if we don’t get Perry. Perry has to shape up his game.
Delusional....
Has something changed from the polls showing him leading in Iowa, 2nd in New Hampshire, and leading in South Carolina?
I’ve given up on Sarah running. Right now, I like Herman Cain. I think he and Marco Rubio would make a great ticket, but Cain probably will not get the nomination. Now, enjoy the rest of the day and work on your “bitterness”; it’s not becoming.
phony as a $ 3 bill??
I thought that was WJC?
I only agree on point one, and only if he does not present a plan for changing it. The rest is unimportant. We haven’t had a real choice on illegals in any recent election, and frankly, people are concerned about jobs and jobs. Perry is massively better on border issues and will contrast well with Obama’s idiotic heavy handed treatment of the AZ law. He will play well with the 10th amendment on the border issue which will be a positive.
No one gives a flying f about guardisil. Obama has billions in crony capitalism examples which is the only thing that might resonate, and he cannot use this effectively because the response will be a death blow - GE, green energy loopholes, etc.
Perry will win easily if he campaigns well, if he proves in the upcoming debates to be getting better in this format and can handle himself on defense as well as offense, he is a shoe in in the primary and likely in the general assuming the economy does not see a significant rebound.
