One could almost hear the collective gasps of Democrats from New York to Washington Tuesday night, as conservative Republican Bob Turner won the nationally-watched special election for the seat of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D.-NY). In a New York City district (Brooklyn-Queens) in which registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by 3-to-1 and which has not had a Republican House Member since 1922, the 70-year-old retired television executive defeated State Assemblyman and Democratic nominee David Weprin by a margin of 50% to 47%, with the remaining 3% going to Christopher Hoeppner of the Socialist Workers Party.
Speaking to HUMAN EVENTS a few hours before the voting booths closed in New Yorks 9th District, Turner predicted the national tremors that would be generated if he emerged triumphant. As he told us, If [Weprin] loses tonight, it will reflect poorly on the national Democratic Administration.

Thankyou NY-9 for doing the right thing.
Shades of thing to come, you Liberal weenies....be afraid....be VERY afraid....we’re coming for you in 2012!!!
We should all send Tony the Wiener a thank you note!
I just read Turner’s brief bio on Wikipedia. He’s an impressive and interesting guy.
This is a key to Republican chances in Senate races in 2012.
Lots of Dem seats in play. They are beginning to distance themselves from him.
I hear that Reid will not even bring up Obama's "Jobs Bill" in the Senate. He does not have enough Democrat votes to pass it, even if the Repubs do not filibuster it.
He is toxic, indeed.
This is one of few times I watch MSNBC..hahaha.
Love it. The Archie Bunker vote.
Archie Bunker speaks for ME!!!
Funny, every time I read about this election I get a picture of Archie Bunker sitting in his chair with that “case closed” look on his face.
At one point last night, I checked into the results site and the third candidate had only 47 votes, total.
It seems to me that perhaps the majority of voters are no longer enamored of socialists of any stripe.
When I watched All In The Family when I was young, I agreed with Mike and Gloria. Now when I watch reruns, I agree with Archie. LOL
Boy, the way Glen Miller played.
That’s funny, I agreed with Meathead too then. Mike was every bit as close-minded as Archie was. I guess it’s an illustration of what Winston Churchill had to say about being a Liberal at 20, and a Conservative at 40.
So true.
Kona coffee ? Yes ! Going to Kona for the 2nd time next March with my Japanese wife . We’ll be celebrating our 25th and making it a 2nd honeymoon at the same time . You live there ?
Let’s see how many of the rats decide this is a great time to retire. No fun if your not in the majority.
Such a lovely headline on this beautiful Wednesday morning.
Ahhhhh. *contented sigh*
It’s an odd looking election district, It looks like Gerry Poodle. (Hard G in Gerry. Gerry was governor of Massachusetts at the time he created the Gerrymander.) http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=NY&district=9
It’s mostly Jewish, but includes some Catholic areas, probably to keep them out of “Black” districts. The Catholics in that area tend to be conservatives.
Dem spin is that Orthodox Jews threw the election to Turner. In actuality the total Jewish vote for Turner was only 29%; however, non-Jewish Dems voted much heavier for him, and Independents overwhelmingly favored the Republican, proving it was a referendum on Obama and not just a statement from Orthodox Jews. Of course it was that too.
