Georgia: Macon City Council Wants to Ban Your Guns |
Monday, September 12, 2011 |
A blatant act of disregard for Georgias Constitution and its statewide firearms preemption law is underway, driven by Macon City Councilman Virgil Watkins. The Macon City Council Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet this Thursday, September 15, at 4:00 p.m. to discuss a city-wide gun ban, based on language from a Cook County, Illinois proposed gun ban. The proposed ordinance would ban the future sale and ownership of all semi-automatic firearms outlined in the ordinance and would require current owners to either render their classified guns inoperable or surrender them to law enforcement officers within ninety days. You can view a draft of the proposed ordinance here. This overreaching effort to illegally enact local gun ordinances is an infringement of your Second Amendment rights. We urge you to attend this meeting and tell the City Council members that you OPPOSE the banning of lawfully owned and purchased firearms. This meeting will be held in the City Council Conference Room at Macon City Hall located at 700 Poplar Street in Macon. If you are unable to attend, have your voice be heard by calling AND e-mailing the Council members before 4 p.m. this Thursday. City Council members can be contacted by calling (478) 751-7260. E-mails can be sent to each member by using the e-mail addresses below. James E. Timley, President Larry Schlesinger, President Pro Tem Rick Hutto, Ward 1 Lonnie Miley, Ward 1 Elaine Lucas, Ward 1 J. I bet Buford Pusser would have a thing or two to say about this...
The azzholes never let up.
“......require current owners to either render their classified guns inoperable or surrender them to law enforcement officers within ninety days.”
The federal laws occupy the field of regulating such weapons, and such a city ordinance
may be freely disobeyed by citizens as illegally unconstitutional.
It's time for Georgia to go Constitutional carry. I spent over three years in Columbus in the early 1990s. As far as I know only concealed carry permits are registered.
Yeah, Im sure the criminals a will obey that law.
GA isn't far from it. Carry licenses are shall-issue, statewide, and permit open carry.

Notice the Obozo 2012 ad in the banner on the top of the page.
He is an Obamanista. No surprise here.
LOL, love some of the guns on the ban list (which they obviously lifted verbatim from the 1994 AWB). A lot of those are rare collector’s items now, and some never existed at all.
In Georgia? Heart of the South? Good luck with that!
Use those email addresses, people! Those in-boxes should get fried with emails.
NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE HOME RULE AUTHORITY OF THE COOK COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, AS VESTED IN IT BY THE ILLINOIS CONSITUTION OF 1970, HEREBY AMEND PORTIONS OF THE ORDINANCE, [...]
Now, why would a portion of a GA legislation reference as authoritative the IL Constitution?
If GA does have statewide preemption, then this clown will be soon getting a stern letter from the AG, assuming that individual is worth their salt.
Oh, that's such a great model to work from. /s
Georgia has pre-emption, but it does not to my knowledge have any provision to punish overreaching local bureaucrats such as Florida recently passed. You can rest assured that if this unconsititutional and illegal regulations passes the local police will not be slow in enforcing it.
Georgia cities are hotbeds of (mostly black) democrats who as we all know have no respect for the constitution or individual rights.

Yes, this is something that I have been talking about for the past five years. So let’s have some FReepers from Macon post pictures of their own personal collections. I’m sure we can do something to make it easy for the local prosecutor to get warrants for the SWAT teams and convictions from the juries. Or are we going to see some official announcements about how you lost your entire collection out at Lake Tobesofkee last fall.
I don’t see anything in the announcement that this law will only apply to Blacks. I am aware that gun control laws were primarily to keep Blacks from own personal firearms. But this time they want them from us Whites too.
GeorgiaCarry.Org will be on them like a duck on a June bug. I’ll bet they file suit before the ink is dry on Macon’s ordinance.
