Texas has warmest summer on record of any state
The blistering heat experienced by the nation during August, as well as the June through August months, marks the second warmest summer on record according to scientists at NOAAs National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, N.C. The persistent heat, combined with below-average precipitation across the southern U.S. during August and the three summer months, continued a record-breaking drought across the region.
The average U.S. temperature in August was 75.7 degrees F, which is 3.0 degrees above the long-term (1901-2000) average, while the summertime temperature was 74.5 degrees F, which is 2.4 degrees above average. The warmest August on record for the contiguous United States was 75.8 degrees F in 1983, while its warmest summer on record at 74.6 degrees F occurred in 1936. Precipitation across the nation during August averaged 2.31 inches, 0.29 inches below the long-term average. The nationwide summer precipitation was 1.0 inch below average.
This monthly analysis, based on records dating back to 1895, is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides.
Excessive heat in six states Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana resulted in their warmest August on record. This year ranked in the top ten warmest August for five other states: Florida (3rd), Georgia (4th), Utah (5th), Wyoming (8th), and South Carolina (9th).The Southwest and South also had their warmest August on record

But then, it was in the mid-hundreds in the Fifth century in the US but nobody was here to write it down.
The prior record was 75 yrs ago? No trend there. Chicago had some heat this summer but it wasn’t bad. We have had plenty of rain for all that corn, too.
The summer has been amazingly cool here in San Jose.
I live in the Houston area and the heat was only really bad for about two weeks. The real problem has been the lack of rain ALL YEAR LONG.
Until the past week or two, I can’t remember a cooler summer in southern California.
It felt quite a bit cooler the other day so I decided I would go out for a long bike ride. When I checked the temp it was only 97.
2nd? Who cares then?
Because the first is probably one of the dust bowl years.
NW Washington, coldest June and July on record and August wasn’t exactly balmy, either. This week we are having nice weather.
When I was a child growing up in Chico, CA, I recall summer days of 115+ in the shade as being normal. I haven’t seen summer temps that high on a regular basis for years.
The Bay area has been very mild this summer. Certainly not the 2nd warmest summer on record here.
Man made drought and man made heat....barry hates the productive Texas and Perry...so with his childish mentality he uses this to attack Texas.
How did he do that? With a weather machine?
Just wait! Only 6000 years ago, Nebraska was so dry and hot that there were SAND DUNES deposited there!
Oh. We noticed.
Most people have been complaining this summer has been too cold.
Fine by me, until this week when it reached the 90’s.
Can’t complain about a completely mild summer though. Luv it.
Obligatory D@mn Warmal Globing remark!!
Signed,
Sweaty Texan
