It is pretty cool up here, and I live in the town with half the population of the state.

I've been watching a lot of 9-11 shows and thinking about that day and those following and the effect it had on our state. It was a huge thing when all planes were grounded. So much of the state has no roads at all and their only access to hospitals are by air, and the only way food gets in is by air.....we had to get special dispensation to get the state connected again. So many things were connected, and disconnected, by those *^%#%&* terrorists.

T G I F

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.
I was checking out that picture of the flooding in Elizabeth City, NC from Irene.
I can't help but wonder how it looks after all this rain?
I know that the pictures I'm seeing of our area the craziest I've ever seen.
And, some in places I wouldn't have suspected.

The DC Metroland weather report

~ Today...Showers likely.
Thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs around 80.
Northeast winds around 5 mph...Becoming southeast in the afternoon.
Chance of rain 70 percent.

~ Tonight...Mostly cloudy.
A chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening...
Then a slight chance of showers after midnight.
Lows in the mid 60s. West winds around 5 mph.
Chance of rain 40 percent.

Well, I'm sitting here eating Cini-Minis from Burger King, enjoying the quiet while it lasts.

And, it won't last long - unless...
some people can't get out of their neighborhood.
But that will only make Monday worse, IMO.

Also, waiting to hear from son who is suppose to ride with a group going to NY for 9/11 services.
Just wondering if they'll try to make it with so many roads closed.

I'll try to make my rounds
before the quiet is challenged by the screeching of the phone
or the dinging of incoming mail.
But, you stay right where you are.
Don't leave the room...I'll be bock!

Remember, the Canteen is

Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM - DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

Good morning, dear

Good morning, Luvy

Good morning, Pro

((HUGS))

Look what I found at NOAA's website: NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center: La Niña is back

This means drought is likely to continue in the drought-stricken states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico,” said Mike Halpert, deputy director of the Climate Prediction Center. “La Niña also often brings colder winters to the Pacific Northwest and the northern Plains, and warmer temperatures to the southern states.”

Seasonal hurricane forecasters factored the potential return of La Niña into NOAA’s updated 2011 Atlantic hurricane season outlook, issued in August, which called for an active hurricane season. With the development of tropical storm Nate this week, the number of tropical cyclones entered the predicted range of 14-19 named storms.

The strong 2010-11 La Niña contributed to record winter snowfall, spring flooding and drought across the United States, as well as other extreme weather events throughout the world, such as heavy rain in Australia and an extremely dry equatorial eastern Africa.

Guess we'd better prepare ourselves as best we can.
