Australian history books will no longer use Jesus' birth as a reference point for dates, to the outrage of some religious and political leaders.
Under new government curriculum, the terms BC, translated "Before Christ," and AD, translated "The Year of Our Lord," will be replaced with neutral, non-religious language.
The land down under will now use the politically correct BCE and CE, meaning "Before Common Era" and "Common Era" respectively.
The terms are popular in academic and scientific publications.
Archbishop of Sydney Peter Jensen has condemned the move, calling it an "intellectually absurd attempt to write Christ out of human history."
Christopher Pyne, with Australia's Liberal National Party, also criticized the decision.
"Australia is what it is today because of the foundations of our nation in the Judeo-Christian heritage that we inherited from Western civilization," he said.
"Kowtowing to political correctness by the embarrassing removal of AD and BC in our national curriculum is of a piece with the fundamental flaw of trying to deny who we are as a people," he added.

I call it
BCE - Before CHRISTian Era
CE - CHRISTian Era
How long ‘till they switch to the muslim calender?
How about BO and AO........Before Obamugabe...............
Oz only did this because To use BM would have resulted in seeting rage boys.
Easy. Just subtract 666 years.................
The whole world has denied the Messiah in every form imaginable. But let it. "Let the wicked be wicked still." He said, "If they hated me, then they will hate you." The Word of the LORD is true and those who deny Him, he will deny before God.
and just when does “Common Era” start?
I suppose the modern pagans could go back to numbering the years by the old Roman system, and get Christ out of it entirely since that’s what they’re determined to do. That would make this year 2764 AUC.
(Ab urbe condita (related with Anno Urbis Conditae: AUC or a.u.c. or a.u.[1]) is Latin for “from the founding of the City (Rome)”,[2] traditionally set in 753 BC. AUC is a year-numbering system used by some ancient Roman historians to identify particular Roman years.)
“Common Era” is Communist Era.
The year that Jesus was born!

All followers of Yah'shua know that as YHvH, He, YHvH created this space-time continuum. Hence to many followers it(AD) on it's face is blasphemous.
There are many who believe that AD anno domini
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
would suggest that the Roman "church" created their
god to have not existed before the birth of Yah'shua(Jesus).
He is the creator of the universe.
“Common era”—
someone asked, “What was common about it?”
How about using 2008 as the new marker. We can say Year 3 AWWTF, as in Year 3 “After We Were Totally F’d.”
Today’s liberals would want to renumber in a different way.
Perhaps 1970 could be re-set to be the year 1, in celebration of the first earth day and environmental activism.
1964 could become the new year 1, in honor of the Civil Rights Act.
2004 could become the new year 1, as 2004 was the year that homosexual marriage came to America, in Massachusetts.
2008 could become the new year 1, as that was the year of Obama’s election.
1966 could become the new year 1, in honor of the founding of the National Organization of Women.
Yep, the weakness of this BCE and CE designation is still that the birth of Christ is the underlying starting point.
In order to do this properly, liberals need the starting point to be a monumental date in the history of some liberal cause or event or person, not referencing Christ.
Gosh, that sure is interesting, Uriel-2012. There are many things in this world that I don't know (more things that I don't know than I do, come to think of it) but --- in my many decades of life, I have never met even ONE person so foolish as to think that "Roman" "Church" people don't believe God to have existed before Jesus.
That would take a truly eye-rolling level of ignorance.
And you say there are "many" who are thus abysmally uninformed?
Could you name two or three?
GMD - Galactic Meridian Date
I hear that would be Dec 12,2010
