All eyes will be on the national political stage Wednesday night as Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the newly anointed GOP favorite, must navigate pitfalls, landmines, and broadsides from every quarter during his first Republican presidential debate if he hopes to solidify his frontrunner status.
How well Perry holds up under the pressure will determine who has the inside track to win the nomination. If the former cotton farmer-turned-politico performs well and doesnt stumble, it would go along way toward solidifying the growing momentum that has vaulted him to the top of the GOP pack in recent primary polls.

I've heard some suggest that Perry has to hit it out of the park in the debate. I suggest it will be a victory if he makes it out of the Reagan library with his ass only somewhat intact.

IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
You can bet Perry is well prepared. He’ll do just fine.
They will ask him about Global Warming and Evolution. I hope he has seen the latest news from CERN. Global Warming is dead. We won. Shout it out!
I think the key to a good performance for Perry is to stay relaxed, stick with the idea that tonight is an introduction — similar to the introduction the others were able to make in the first debate — and as much as possible, just let the criticism roll of his shoulders.
Just be of good cheer, relaxed, and emphasize who you are and what your record is.
They will ask him about Global Warming and Evolution. I hope he has seen the latest news from CERN. Global Warming is dead. We won. Shout it out!I hope so too. I really, really hope one of his advisers told him this FANTASTIC GREAT NEWS.
I'm hoping he gets one or two of his wisecracks in.
As far as the candidates go, Perry is hands down, the d00d you want to have a beer (or 4 beers) with.
If he can get that to come across during the vetting season the election is his to lose.
What great news? What did I miss?
People will eat it up. His illegal immigration love for some reason gives his supporters a great feeling. I for one find his love of illegals a disaster.
“I suggest it will be a victory if he makes it out of the Reagan library with his ass only somewhat intact.”
I agree but I think he will acquit himself quite well.
Do an FR search on the word CERN

But there are MANY others!
In fact Barack Hussein Obama was never ever vetted by the MSM
Which is why Perry MUST be vetted. So far he is being treated with kid gloves which is unacceptable. Every other candidate has had full on press but Perry is getting a major pass. It could come back and bit us if he gets through without a full vetting.
On one level, no, he just has to emerge without any embarrassing gaffes. Bachmann will be interested in getting out of fight mode after her squabble with TPaw and Romney is still trying to look presidential.
Ron Paul is the only guy likely to go after him directly and he’s a gnat that Perry ought to be able to swat away with ease.
But on another level, will he come across as a greasy, glad-handing back-room pol to viewers? That’s to me the question since his rise in the polls to date is due primarily to the prominent plumping of his campaign in the news. The vast majority of voters have actually seen or heard very little from him directly.
If Palin’s lucky he’ll step in it tonight. If not, it may take another two or three or four debates for him to really make an impression, and the question is whether the voters will like and believe him and his record once they get to know him.
Admittedly, Perry may not be everything we'd want on immigration, but using terms like "love of illegals" and "open borders" is utter distortion.
Perry on immigration:
Advocated for and eventually signed a stringent voter ID law
Pushed for anti-sanctuary city law
August, 2010: Perry asks Obama for 1,000 additional National Guard troops on border
Perry sends Whitehouse $350 million bill for cost of illegal immigration
The reason Pawlenty,Santorum et al all got poor ratings at the debates was because they were scripted and politically correct.Perry needs to pull off a unscripted regular guy blunt debate and not worry about what Dana Perino,Rove and the talking heads say afterwards. He is ahead BECAUSE he slid out the soc sec ponzi scheme and Bernake treason things the MSM and Fox news said were radical slip ups.He needs to talk to the American people and speak bluntly. If he goes Trump blunt he will win but only Trump can pull it off w/o criticism. The media are going to hate anyway. The American people want Obama’s actions SPOKEN ABOUT LOUD AND CLEAR.I have never seen Perry in this type of forum nor do I really know him but if he hits these issues he will triumph.
-race riots in WI no response from POTUS?
-union mob threats towards America with Obama off stage when it went down Obama called his people? to MOBILIZE (we are not stupid!)
-fast and furious
-Solyndra- Obama primped and pimped green company was given stimulus=bankrupt
-Obama’s joint session speech:same old ideas rehashed with a different set of dem code words for tax and the only thing this President knows how to do $pend, vacay, golf, incite racial/class wars
-joe the plumber warned us
-as top economists/CEOs have said WANT JOBS? get Obama out.
-Go Saints.
Seriously, what remote planet are you posting from?
Because here on planet earth, the press, the republican establishment, the left and his fellow GOP contenders have done nothing but pound on him since the moment he got in.
So who do you like on the issue of immigration?
Bachmann? She’s the only candidate (including Palin) to receive high marks from NumbersUSA.
So is Bachmann your candidate?
If not, why not, since you do seem to be focused on immigration with a laser focus.
Vetted?
BS
I have never met Rick Perry but he grew up 15 miles from me. (he is a few years younger). I know both of his parents. They were Dems but never Libs...Fact.
Rick Perry is a “natural born” U.S. citizen, meets the age requirement specified in the U.S. Constitution, served in the Air Force, has been a successful Governor of the State of Texas. What more do you want to “vet”?
His ancestors came to this county in 1887, my ancestors came here in 1889. Some of my ancestors were born in Texas during the Republic.
Is Rick perfect? NO. But he will wipe the floor with the Obastard.
