Erick Erickson: “moving on from Sarah Palin is like leaving Scientology” (Erick, grow up!)
Legal Insurrection ^ | 9/7/2011 | William Jacobson

Posted on 09/07/2011 10:18:27 AM PDT by Lakeshark

I guess that makes me a Scientologist, because I’ve posted repeatedly that Palin holds a special position because there is no one — not even George W. Bush — who has been the subject of the Democratic, mainstream media and left-blogosphere smear machine to the extent Palin has.

So yes, I do take it personally when conservatives lash out at Palin not because of her policy positions or what she’s done or not done in her career, but with personal invective.

It’s not religion, its a cold hard understanding of what is to come, and how those who call Palin a diva or a tease or any of the other names coming from media conservatives do damage to us all. Palin is simply the test case for how the Republican nominee, whoever that person may be, will be treated, and we pile on her at our own peril.
**snip**
Simply by waiting to announce, Palin has driven media conservatives mad. It all seems so familiar.

“I will actively oppose her nomination, and if she wins the nomination I will sit the election out. And it is because I don’t want her supporters anywhere near the levers of power. If this is the type of supporter she inspires, then that says a lot of negative things about her candidacy as well.”

Nothing like crap calling a fart stinky.

The fact that Sara is getting more enemies even on the right is starting to get me thinking about Joan of Arc.

Would you characterize that as a good thing or a bad thing?

So you are saying that we have completely destroyed your common sense after so many “reasonable” election cycles where just everybody agreed on the same candidate from the jump so there were no arguments whatsoever and everyone was cooing at each other like lovebirds the entire time.
I see.

Agreed. Cain and Bachmann have their own respective groups of “haters” as well, and many right here on FR.

And that date is?

When Palin says it is.

You do realize that once she officially enters the race, the rules change. There are election laws, campaign finance laws, etc to consider.

Working as a free agent allows for a certain amount of freedom. Here's a word that might help you understand.... STRATEGY!

I have no idea what her game plan is and neither do you or anyone else for that matter. Do you think you could muster the courage to have a little patience and wait to see how her strategy plays out? Quite frankly, I find the whole thing fascinating but then I love folks who are able to think outside conventional paradigms. People like that are what's needed to restore our Constitutional Republic.

What a worthless creep Erickson is. Yeah, I get it, one must be a Zombie to believe in limited government, freedom of the individual, reduced taxation and border control. You’ve jumped the shark, Fool! Bob

Free Republic has been harmed because of the antics of “some” perry supporters. Not all of them... only a few vocal activists... but real damage has occurred here. I have not seen Jim Robinson threaten any Palin supporters but I did see him threaten to ban two perry supporters... both in the same thread.

So the choices appear to be a) she is indecisive and and can't make up her mind; b) she has decided not to run, but has not told her supporters in order to stay in limelight; or c) she has decided to run, but has kept it to herself so as to keep getting her $1M/yr salary until the very last minute. Indecisive, unethical or dishonest? You decide.

Thanks, you are probably helping to unseal some eyes around here. I'd like nothing better than to see Palin inaugurated, but the writing on the wall doesn't offer much hope of that.

Nevertheless, she deserves the benefit of the doubt and a fourth possibility: decided not to run but waiting to make sure Perry doesn't fall on his face coming out of the gate. Maybe she hasn't finished reading 24,000 emails of his! ;)

Don’t feel like the lone ranger. You don’t seem to lose control of yours, however.

>> Thanks very much for your kind words.

No, thank YOU for your good example! You and others like you are an inspiration to me and a positive influence within FR. I remember the bitter partisan battles here in 2008; they’re counterproductive. There has to be a better way, and you are showing us by example what it might be.

I don’t know who will end up being the (R) nominee, but one thing I know for certain: the day WILL come when the battle shifts to the REAL enemy — Barack Obama.

I’m wanting to save up the majority of *my* partisan rancor for *that* battle. I Do Not Like That Guy.

To paraphrase Ann, a lot of us fell in love with Sarah Palin because of her enemies and a lot of us have fallen out of love with Sarah Palin because of her fans.

Okay, that I completely understand. And it's not just Sarah Palin or Ron Paul, either.

When we on the Right start engaging in worshipping a human being, we're on extremely thin ice. Pat Buchanan's name should be included on this list (I know he isn't running for anything yet he was and still is worshipped, too).

Why must this behavior destroy us and our gathering places? What exactly do we win? Last time I checked, destruction is not productive.

Don't say "worshipping" is too strong a word. When not one negative thing can be stated about someone without a loyal herd pouncing on you, it's worshipping.

Period.

Or you can get raw with these strings. Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.

‘Perry supporters have called Gov. Palin worse things than a “RINO”.”

K, you laid it out there. Back it up.

OF COURSE we know that the hit piece was aimed at us. Just b/c WE won’t settle for the establishment jerk “wisdom” that gave us Juan McCain, and that now wants us to swallow Milt or Pander Perry, we are LOOOOONatics. No, it is YOU, Erick, who is the loser, and thanks to guys like you, all of America will soon be. Bob

Ann is entertaining but has become something of a self-promoting sideshow. Who would you vote for - Sarah Palin or Ann Coulter (were she to try to run anything but her mouth)?

The problem with the article is that it attempts to immunize Palin from any criticism—any criticism whatsoever. While it states that policy criticisms are permitted, it completely negates the statement when it essentially states that all criticism of Palin is an attack on Conservatives. The permitted criticism is eviscerated and swallowed by the dominant rule that if you criticize Palin it is a personal attack both on her and the Conservative movement.

All candidates have their strengths and weaknesses. The attempt here to eliminate honest discussion of the same weakens a potential Palin candidacy.

FR has been damaged badly... both rove and company and the progressive left media have worked their magic. I'll tell you one damned thing... I have NEVER seen a Palin supporter use left wing progressive arguments to rationalize her actions... but Perry threads are rife with progressive acceptance of some of Perry's governance. Now we are down to personal insults and attacks of the worst kind. I doubt that the atmosphere on FR will ever be the same again. We have been divided... all that is left for the dims to do is to conquer us... and odds are that they will and that the left will win again.

Personally, I disagree with her on several issues, and I don’t like everything she says. BUT, I have great admiration for her love and understanding of America. When I hear vermin like Erickson talk like morons, I’m going to respond. BTW, Paul people can’t or won’t answer tough questions, and sometimes respond with silly bromides. We Palinites may get defensive, but we take pride in our ability to think clearly and cogently, and not revert to spewing focus group-tested sound bites.
Why doesn’t a goof like Erickson TALK to us, rather than go off half-cocked from his bar stool? Bob

“And that date is?
When Palin says it is. “

So you dont know.

If she hasnt told you and you dont know, how do you know there even is a definite date?

“I have no idea what her game plan is”
Then why pretend you know her date to decide?

The second sentence in the article:

So yes, I do take it personally when conservatives lash out at Palin not because of her policy positions or what she’s done or not done in her career, but with personal invective.

How one can take that to be an attempt to immunize Palin from any criticism is beyond me. He said it plain and clear, criticize her record, criticize her policies, argue against her but don't use this pettiness that has come from so called media conservatives lately.
