drilled to a depth of 31,545 feet. I might be wrong, but isn't that about 5x as deep as the BP well?

Over a mile of Gulf depth and 6 miles deep in the earth, pretty impressive.

Thank you for your post. This is an important discovery. The Obama administration suspended the well with the 2010 drilling moratorium, and re-issued permission to restart a year later. The delay cost several tens of millions of dollars.

Yup. One would think Chevron would keep this under wraps until Hugo Bama is gone.

Chevron better think real hard about moving their headquarters out of the states before Zer0 and his thugs get wind they might actually produce oil AND a profit.

Who’s supposed to be watching over this to make sure safety doesn’t go to hell like it did in the BP drill? I don’t put it past this looney administration to try to sabotage that in order to get another spill, just like they tried to flood the clandestine Mexican gun market in Gunrunner/F&F so they could complain about the guns later.

I think the planet is basically made of oil. It was just a few years ago that they found a gigantic deep water field in the Gulf.

Just out of curiosity, how big are pipes that extend through a mile of water? They must be extremely big or extremely flexible.

Thanks SeekAndFind.
The Keathley Canyon Block 736 Well No. 1 encountered more than 380 feet of net pay in the Lower Tertiary Wilcox Sands... approximately 216 miles off the Louisiana coast in 6,759 feet of water and was drilled to a depth of 31,545 feet.

I’ve said for years that the world is awash in oil. That’s nothing original, but I think it needs to be said often.
We just have to be willing to get it.

They’re going to melt their drilling tools.
