(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry will not attend the Palmetto Freedom Forum of GOP candidates Monday night, sponsored by Sen. Jim DeMint, and will instead return to Texas to deal with the wildfires in the state, DeMint's office told CNN.

Yes, and that’s sad. Gladewater is northeast. I’ve been more focused on the ones here in Central Texas. Didn’t even realize it was burning up there, too.
He’s in Myrtle Beach, SC right now. I hope this is wrong.
You’re disgusting.
“The hard-core Perry bashers are making fools of themselves by trying to make points out of this. “
Look at any previous posts I’ve had. I am not a hard core Perry basher. In fact, not a Perry basher at all. Huge fires have been burning all over Texas this summer according to what I have read. But it IS amusing to keep reading all the Perry defense posts in varied threads. It’s rather like Ron Paul supporters. You really are ardent supporters.
Living through this has been truly hellish and I’m one of the lucky ones. This is the worst disaster I have seen in my 67 years on earth. I just took photos of our house and the contents in case our house burns to the ground. Everything is a tinderbox waiting to go up in flames. We haven’t had any appreciable rain since May 21, 2011 where I live southwest of Tyler. Two years ago we had 55 inches. In 2001 we had 66 inches. This year we have had 10 inches and virtually everyday over 100. Today will probably be horrible with strong winds approaching and NO RAIN IN THE FORECAST FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 10 DAYS. This may not end until December. Texas is literally burning to the ground. Water supplies are exhausted and people are forced to flee or risk their lives to save their property. Over near Corcicanna it just barely missed blowing up a pipeline. That would have been huge. The main rail line was on fire including one of the bridges. What is Zero doing? He treats Texas like a red headed stepchild and expects votes for what? At least Perry is doing the right thing. I don’t know what he can do but it is more than the cipher in the WH is doing. Perry and our two senators asked that Texas be declared a natural disaster area as far back as April. Now it is 100 times worse. This is truly HELL!!!
You do know that he’s been trying to get that POS in the WH to help with a federal disaster declaration but 0bama has denied help.

Possum Kingdom lake got ravaged for the 2nd time this year (just west of DFW), and now East Texas fires are popping up right and left.
I hope those who are making the snide comments regarding the fires will do a quick search and see the photos of the devastation.
No, I guess not.
I am neutral on Perry. But my parents live five miles from some of these fires. So I am paying close attention to them.
“I never doubted Perry would return. He has not been one to shirk his gubernatorial duties”
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jan Brewer and Robert Bentley didn’t shirk their “gubanatorial duties” when they both signed tough anti-
illegal immigration laws in their respective states.
Perry could not even get a little sanctuary city law passed.
Maybe Jan Brewer would agree to return Perry’s nuts so that he could again assume his “gubanatorial duties”.
Praying for Texas. One of my children was born there. God bless all of you.
where is Sarah Palin, and why isn't she attending the forum?
What exactly is St Rick going to do about the fires?
I never doubted Perry would return. He has not been one to shirk his gubernatorial duties.
____________________________________________________________
Perry has been shirking his gubernatorial duties since he started running for president on the TX taxpayers dime.
The fires you remember from earlier this year were all put out. These are new fires that just started this week end. The earlier fires were not nearly as big or as wide spread as these.
Your posts are always a breath of fresh air. Don't worry about the acrimony. What your seeing is mostly disgruntled Palin supporters trying to tear down other candidate(s) that they know she probably can't beat anymore. Palin is not running, and sometime near the end of this month she will confirm that. Once that happens those people will whine, flail about and cry that the "establishment" is out to get her and that's why she didn't run, etc. The truth is the path she has taken from quitting her job as Governor, doing RealityTV, teasing about whether she will run, etc, has just alienated far more conservatives than it has attracted to her cause. Eventually we will end up with a nominee from the candidates that actually are running, Governor Palin will enthusiastically support that candidate, and most of us will rally behind him or her.
Second, the US Government and FEMA and every other
resource should have been helping Texas already.
Every one. And every FReeper agrees.
Third, the "help" a Governor can give is serious
but hardly limited to the few hours of the debate.
Where was the Gov. before?
And fourth, how far is this?
Why don’t you provide a source that shows that Perry is trying to act presidential by returning home? Ditto a source that shows “he doesn’t give a crap.” You DO know that the governors of all 50 states including yours occasionally travel out of state? And do you also realize that we live in a world where it is possible to stay constantly on top of events? Do you think it would help if he stands over each fire and watches it? It’s not as if the guy is on vacation. Nobody in Texas feels like he has abandoned us so people like you in Georgia will just have to deal with it. I’ll come back later to see what sources you came up with.
Source? He is running on campaign funds. Do you have a link to show he is using Texas taxpayer money? Do you think if a person already holds public office they shouldn’t run for higher office? We are going to be mighty short of candidates if that is the case.
