GOP consultant Mark McKinnon says that the editor of a major newspaper told him, "We plan to declare war on Rick Perry and do all in our power to crush him."
Mr. McKinnon was outraged. "No pretense of integrity, professionalism or of unbiased news gathering," he wrote in Investors' Business Daily.
But I doubt he was surprised. This is what the "mainstream" media did to Sarah Palin in 2008, and what likely is in store for anyone Republicans nominate.
But liberals will go after the Texas governor with special venom because he is anti- intellectual, prays in public, takes the Constitution seriously and sometimes carries a handgun, Walter Shapiro wrote in The New Republic.
"It's almost as if Perry's political persona was constructed by bundling together all the fears and phantoms in the left-wing anxiety closet." he said.

And she’s done it with grace.
Didn’t read the article....did he name the newspaper?
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
You picked up on too? Lol
Perry is the only candidate I can remember who gets simultaneously attacked for being too far right and too far left
I honestly wish everyone would hold their powder until the field is set before jumping on the "American Idol" choosing of battle lines. Now is the time for introspection of what conservatism is supposed to mean in a constitutional sense and not the star power one tries to bring to the game.
They all have a certain amount of star power we must separate from the wheat. Lets work on that first and tell the likes of the ruling elites to shove it. Its our choice to make, not theirs.
She’s caught more hell than Perry seems to have stomach for...it’s pretty damn early for his handlers to be throwing in the victim card.
I reserve the right to retort to unfounded lies, half truths and hyperbole. Not to start them, sir.
Unlike others I have the ability to peacefully co-exist but will strike like a viper once poked with the above.
Why?
I hope the adults retake control of the board soon.
It is a real shame. My fear is that if the level of discourse continues to decline, that we are going to drive off some of our very best contributors.

I don’t post much, but I’m a $ contributor and have been lurking daily for years. I’ve been lurking much less because of the “level of discourse” on FR from more than just a few. It will be the reason for FR’s decline. I hope it doesn’t happen, but I’m here less and less because of it.
I have determined that most of these “Palin” supporters are anything but, they are rabid Ron Paul supporters pretending to be Palin supporters to drive a wedge between the two camps
Like your post. I wish others on FR would take your rational approach. I like both Palin and Perry both as well. If I could personally choose the President, I would choose Palin. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.
Now to address your points:
I don’t care how many times you excuse her by claiming that since she had fulfilled ALL of her campaign promises that it was okay to resign. Remember had it not just been when she was governor it would be one thing. When you factor in that she also used this line of reasoning and excuses to leave her position on the Oil and Gas commission early it must be looked at to see if she gets bored with a job then finds a way to leave.
We honestly can’t say what Palin would have done over the long haul because she quits. You all don’t seem to grasp that the opposition has already beaten her. They still go after her because it’s easy. She has a dedicated small following. However there are way more people who simply believe she isn’t qualified to be the POTUS and will never vote for her.
I think she could have overcome the dems smear campaign had she not chosen the celebrity route. She had a big enough book deal, speaking fee, and a big enough contract with Fox to cover those legal bills.
She could have honed and enhanced her image by simply doing those things if she was earnestly wanting to be the POTUS. Doing a reality television show with Kate plus 8 didn’t help her in looking presidential.
The opposition will dig up whatever they can about any of the R’s because that is just simply how the 0bama thug machine works. Palin wasn’t his first victim. His team had sealed custody and divorce papers opened just so they could win an election. Our side just has to learn to shrug it off and not let them get by with this tactic.
The R’s didn’t pay attention to all those polls in 2006 when the people were saying they didn’t like what the hell they were doing and were slaughtered during the election. Palin says polls don’t matter but every poll from right to left leaning sources are saying the same thing. She loses by double digits to 0bama. Polls may not be as important when you only have to win less than 250,000 votes to win. Keep in mind Alaska only has 494,000 registered voters.
Excellent post and I agree!
I just pointed out the irony of your statement is all. ;)
So you don’t care about reality and I am supposed to care about that? Ironic that I don’t, huh?
Mainstream media and Democrats and some on the fringe right fear the Texas governor, so they smear him
“It’s almost as if Perry’s political persona was constructed by bundling together all the fears and phantoms in the left-wing anxiety closet.”
They don’t say that about Romney.
I think Perry deserves more from his supporters than has been shown here. Funny, how that works, isn’t it.
