MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

I know that it's been almst 100% effective...keeping the terrorists out..do yo have any recommended links to articles about the wall...
You can get a good idea of what a lot of Texas/Mexico border is like by calling up Del Rio, Texas on Google.com and then look at the border area from above.
There's a river. Much of the river has a road along its length on the US side. Same over on the Mexican side but the road isn't as well used. Kind of mirror images. There are places where the road doesn't follow the road but cuts across the bend.
I looked at several hundred miles of river and didn't find one single cow ~
Very true. Upon which foreign border would Virgina build a fence? Send the National Guard for protection? Set land off-limits to citizens (as is the case in AZ)?
Oh wait...It was TX good law vs. AZ bad law. Sorry....I forgot to care about Virginia's laws.
Won’t be a deterrent. The mines need to be fatal in order to be a deterrent.
Duh. Now, take that observation and apply it in reverse: Does Perry advocate fencing in those locations where it would be of obvious tactical benefit?
No.
QED.
But remember that the Jamaican had no other alternative. What under-the-table job could he find in Guantanamo?
And where in Guantanamo could he hid out?
Things are very different on the mainland. After the contract period, the illegal could easily disappear.
That's effectively amnesty. The illegal is here, he's not going back, and the government is going to do nothing about it.
No we don't. Let the berries rot. Better rotten berries than a rotten republic.
Those who didn't never got to be civilizations ~ it's such a fundamental idea it's hard to believe anyone could oppose it.
YankeeReb, this Texan has already heard enough of his explainations over the past 25 years. He's a RINO who is all talk and no action.
I have yet to see one person say they are staying home on election day. That talking point is long past old. We came out and voted last time for a RINO and we ended up with Zero. Why repeat history? Why are you willing to settle for another McRINO instead of demanding a true conservative who won't cave at every turn?
Sadly, I think you’re exactly right.
If Perry was all that his supporters say he is, I’d be happy to support him.
Screw you. There are plenty of skilled american born workers looking fopr work. End H1-b now! ESAD.
You know there’s something personally destructive about saying you’re not for amnesty, but you can’t approve of sending people back home either.
I’m so sick of this type of snake oil salesman.
Your typical civilian simply doesn't have the resources to deal with a "Berlin Wall" situation, or with the even larger wall that ran along West Germany from end to end.
It was huge. There were no mass movements of civilians from East to West. I have known a number of East Bloc and German refugees over the years ~ they all got out BEFORE the fences went up, or they were swapped for spies.

. . . . Remember, if we tell the truth about Perry, (or any candidate) we will be labeled trolls, or RINOs by certain groups of freepers.
We could have a hunting season that parallels the white tale deer season. We could use drug darts instead of live ammo. Would be funny seeing an illegal walking up strapped to the hood of an F-150 going 70MPH to the tagging station.
He has a military background. He says a fence would be ineffective. What does he offer as a better solution?
A military commander would have a better alternative before rejecting what he saw as only a partial solution.
“Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.”
SharpRightTurn says he opposes another open-border Republican nominee.
Get lost, Gov. GoodHair.
We don’t need you.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
Why do you have walls on your house? Why do you have locks on your doors and windows? Why do you have a dog? Why do you have outdoor lights? Why do you have a neighborhood watch? Why do you have a loaded gun in your house? Why do you have a fence around your property? How silly! What a waste of time and money! It doesn't work!
Have you given any thought to the farms that would go out of business and the jobs that would be lost all along the distribution chain?
