MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

No, you just put that money to boots on the ground.
A fence won’t work. You still need boots on the ground even with a fence or else the fence is nothing more than a fake obstacle.
A fence is a moronic waste of money. I’m surprised there’s this many people on FR that would support something that dumb and ineffective.
Sorry to breka the news to you, but Perry’s lead is real. And Sarah Palin’s approval ratings are unrecoverable and past the point of no return.
But you’ll find out this truth soon enough
Why build it then?! Just PUT MEN ALONG THERE. How Dumb Can You Be?!?
A Fence is a colossal waste of money.
How you can even defend a governor who kowtows to illegals is beyond me. The number of illegals in Texas has increased.
Not to mention the number of illegals getting college aid is also on the rise.
The status quo is no longer an option. Perry has had 10 years to fix the illegals in Texas, and has done nothing. He's made the state MORE attractive to illegals, not less.
Perry is part of the problem, NOT the solution.
And I say to You aree a RINO. He will never get the Tea Party vote with that position. Ergo, he’s unelectable as a Pubbie RINO. Perrybots need a serious reality check. This isn’t rocket science nor clever posturing. It’s a fact. Anyone who claims to be a Tea Partier and buys into Perry’s BS is either lying about being conservative or is not Tea Party material in the first place.
The wall is force multiplier, ask the Israelis.
The wall is force multiplier, ask the Israelis.
Immigration is just one of his problems. His idiotic comments about the supreme court won’t help him either.
Even if the fence is not very efficient, it sends a message that this country is SERIOUS about stopping illegal movement across its borders.
Sure, Guard patrols and employer sanctions are good ideas too. But they are not permanent.
One governor can send out the Guard, another can quietly recall the Guard. And poof! it's all forgotten.
Same goes with employer sanctions. One administration can enforce them, the next one can ignore them.
But a fence is always there. It's a constant reminder.
Even today when AMERICA SCREAMED:
It is truly funny how people act like this is the first time they’ve heard Perry say this. He’s been a RINO all along and people believe he’s all of a suddent going to change now?
Michele Bachmann is our only true conservative running. Too bad so many Republicans can’t get past the fact she’s a woman.
A wall wouldn't work! ...so why build one?
No question.
But where does the Israeli-Palestinian wall parallel and block access to a river flowing through a desert environment?
Would the Israelis have built a wall along the Jordan? I doubt it.
Yada, yada, yada. Buy a clue, it's a politician's website. So what, Perry threw $$$ at gangs and got the same result as Obama did with the Stimulus and QEs. Hmmm, wonder why there was an increase in gangs and violence? It couldn't be because he ignored the problem for the past 25 years he's been in government. Naw, that couldn't be why.
Told ya.
Tell it to the Marines!
For your amusement the Israelis wall. It must be a nightmare to man, but they manage.
"Don't worry Perry. Just get a couple pics taken of you clearing out brush on a ranch and the Daily Dose folks will swoon and cover for your amnesty schnanigans."
E.g., the "Bracero Program". It worked...until LBJ pandered to the Cesar Chavez crowd.
Exactly.
When I was stationed in Guantanamo, the Navy had a "contract worker" program so that Jamaicans could come to the Guantanamo Naval Base for a specified contract time to mow lawns, work in the chow halls, paint buildings, pick up garbage, etc., so that our U.S. Marines could be manning the Fence-line and protecting the base instead of dishing out S.O.S. for breakfast. Apparently, the Navy still has such a program at GTMO which now includes Filipinos. (See below)
After the contract period, the Jamaican worker returned to his family in Jamaica to enjoy spending his U.S. dollars.
Rinse and repeat.
However, for some reason I do not understand, any mention of "Contract Worker Program" seems to bring out cries of Amnesty! Amnesty! Amnesty!"
