MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

Now, you've got a point there. The various methods for securing the border (fences, drones, new laws, whatever) would all entail greater federal powers.
That does make me uncomfortable.
Are you in the Fence Construction or in the Ladder Rental business?
The way to stop illegals is by patrolling the border .... Like Perry did with the Texas National Guard and the Texas Rangers.
Israel’s border is?? Texas border is 1200 miles.
Ever toured the Texas border?
Yes, amazing.
Why don’t we just bring the troops home from overseas and let them police the border? We need to get the hell out of the ME and every other place on the planet. And kick the U.N. out of the U.S. We need to start looking out for #1.
Perry thinks the polls that show him way out in front are real...LOL
He believes the MSM headlines to the point that he thinks he can start moving to the middle.
Boy is he in for a rude awakening when Sarah gets in the race.
I suspect he will start to feel her presence even before she is in...like by this Tuesday
I just don’t want us selecting the route of our own demise.
Perry against Arizona law for Texas
Texas Gov: Arizona Immigration Law 'Not Right' for Texas
I can go on and on... looks like Perry and the AG of Texas don't agree. The AG of Texas acted independently of the Governor, as did the AG of Michigan when he submitted the brief.
No matter how you spin it, CT, Perry was wrong on this, period.
Use your noggins. Let the man explain his thinking on this. If you stay at home you are reelecting Zero.
Let the man explain his position , this is the sort of disinformation the regime will put out to suppress turn out. It's all Huseins got left in his bag of tricks, disinformation and mis-characterization. He certainly can't run on a record of accomplishment.
BTW does anyone else feel they already know more about Perry (and the other GOP candidates for that matter) than they do about Soetoro.
Israel’s wall is 400 miles long. If they can do it then surely Texas can.
I saw the East German border up close and personal in the late 1970's.
They used various fences, tank ditches, mine fields, dog runs, towers and troops.
History can vouch for how effective it was and how many people died trying to get out.
The fence/wall will be manned you idiot.
What did he say? Well, the message is muddled because he says different things to different audiences. In this case, he’s speaking to an audience (NH) that has illegal immigration down about #48 in things they care about. So your guess is just as good as mine.
Cattlemen, in particular, might have a problem with them.
And that's the problem. Why is he the best we can do? Settling is what got us McRINO who told us we didn't have to be afraid of Hussein. Are you happy with where that has gotten us? Surely, there's someone out there the GOP can get behind but noooo, it's the old boys club and RINOs are in charge.
Herman Cain would have been great if they'd just given him the time of day. He can't be the only conservative with balls who loves America.
No, but we should.
Berlin's wall and Israel's wall worked because they're relatively short in length, and the political will to enforce what the wall represented was not lacking.
China's 'Ten thousand mile wall', as they call it, did not work over the course of it's two thousand year history, despite the will to use it. It was too long to defend, expensive to build and man, there were ways around it, and in the long run, relentless offense always beats a strong defense.
An American wall would be thousands of miles long, and ultimately be manned by American governments that don't have the will of the East Germans, Israelis or feudal Chinese.
There's better ways to get rid of illegals, and it's cracking down on the business that hire them, tightening down on IDs, and generally making it more attractive for them to go back to Mexico than stay here.
Go on the offense against the incentive. Raising the bar to get to the incentive is a losing game.
Glad someone else sees the parallel. It always amazes me that many of the arguments used to justify the illegal invasion are similar to those used to justify slavery, and it's the Democrats doing it (well many RINOs too). This country's economy booms when labor is relatively expensive. If slave wages made a good economy than why did the South lose the war, and why isn't Mexico an economic world power today?
