I am one of a growing number of Americans who find themselves increasingly frustrated with the low-tech surgical options available in this country for certain chronic medical conditions. To achieve an improved quality of life Im willing to travel abroad for treatment, despite the fact that its not covered by health insurance providers. Im in high-profile company: in early July Texas governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry traveled outside the United States to undergo spinal fusion surgery. The procedure included an injection of his own, adult (autologous) stem cells.
Unfortunately for his fellow Americans whose lives would be greatly improved by access to sophisticated stem cell therapy, the mainstream media is treating Perry as it does every other American who bravely goes in search of non-FDA-approved stem cell treatment: not like a pioneer, but a medical tourist. As weve seen before, the MSM botches all discussions of this important topic, grossly slacking in its duty to report medical advances fairly and accurately, wherever and however they occur.

IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
The MSM is only interested in the abortion excusing, embryonic stem cell research.
Never mind that ESCs FAIL, EVERY time they’re used, long term.
You would think that over 20 years of data and $50 Billion in ESC research, might lead them to the obvious conclusion.
The writer admits to voting for Obama. What does that tell you? Not a bad article, but not a real deep thinker.
I believe the author of this piece is mistaken about Rick Perry leaving the country for this procedure.
Libs are over the top on deaths of everyone including babies in the womb. Well, they're small in numbers now with all the abortions the left are so proud of having...blowback is a b*tch.
I was thinking the same thing.
You are right.
“Perry underwent a spinal fusion procedure from Stanley C. Jones, MD, a Houston orthopaedic surgeon. But it wasn’t as routine as it sounds. During the operation, Jones gave Perry an infusion of adult stem cells in an effort to speed recovery.
The stem cells were isolated from Perry’s own fat, obtained via liposuction. The Texas Tribune reports that Perry’s cells were “cultured” in a Texas laboratory that is a branch of South Koreaâs RNL BIO. Jones told the Texas Tribune that he’d gone to Japan to receive RNL BIO stem cells for his own arthritis, and that he was “effectively cured.”

Washington (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry will undergo minor back surgery next month, his office said Friday.
Perry spokesperson Katherine Cesinger said the "minor medical procedure" on July 1st is to "repair a reoccurring back ailment".
She said the procedure was scheduled several months ago, and will not affect the Governor's current schedule. The surgery will be done in Austin, but no other details are being released.
Perry has said he is now considering entering the Republican presidential field. He has not put a time frame on a decision however, beyond saying nothing would happen until after the Texas legislative session ends June 29th.
This week, Perry traveled to events in Los Angeles and New York City, and is scheduled to speak Saturday in New Orleans before the Republican Leadership Conference.
CNN's Political Coverage Manager Steve Brusk contributed to this report. LINK
I'm going to email this moron and PM and make them correct or pull this article.
I just emailed PM...ask them to correct it or pull it. Others should contact them and tell them. The contact information is at the bottom of the web page.
It was Perry’s doctor who went to Japan for treatment of arthritis.
I guess Texas is no longer part of the United States.
The long knives are out for Perry. He must be doing something right.
Dr. Jones is one of the best in his field, and is always ahead of the curve in his search for treatment options.
Back problems are fairly common among fighter pilots. The worse from those that have earned a Martin-Baker Tie after using on the the companies ejection systems. Even if they’ve never ejected over the years different systems have been used to train for ejection. That has aggravated problems in some folks.
Hadn’t thought of that...too funny.
What is always puzzling to me is that the same people who fully support killing inconvenient children are the ones opposed to the death penalty for real criminals!
Texas has first class medical providers, facilities and centers (like Houston's internationally acclaimed medical center -- it's a city). AND they serve rich, poor and in between.
This article really is a twisted cut at Texas and Perry.
To be clear: Rick Perry used his own stem cells. He advocates the use of adult stem cells.
Well, Austin is a bit different than the rest of Texas. They play all kinds of music there. :>)
I didn't know, though, that Austin had been ranked among the foreign cities.
Rotflol!
Austin is foreign even to Texans. There are some great conservative Texans in Austin...Austin needs to move to the NE Coast or the West Coast...it’d fit better there.
