Ukraine to supply 49 Oplot tanks to Thailand

Today at 10:22 | Interfax-Ukraine

Ukraine will supply 49 Oplot main battle tanks to the Royal Thai Army, Ukraine's state arms exporter Ukrspecexport told Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

Representatives of Ukrspecexport and the Royal Thai Army signed the contract for the supply of tanks late on Thursday. The contract details have not been disclosed.

The state company said that the deal was one of the largest in the defense sector. Sources in the defense sector told Interfax-Ukraine that the deal was estimated to be worth about $240 million.

Ukraine is currently providing BTR-3E1 armored personnel carriers to Thailand. The total value of contracts signed in 2006 and in 2011 is estimated at $270 million.

The BM Oplot tank, which was designed by Kharkiv Morozov Engineering Design Bureau on the basis of the Ukrainian T-84 tank, is well known on the world market, and, according to experts, has good market prospects.

Yes.. Thailand. They have a horrific Muslim insurgency in the South supported tacitly by Malaysia.

They also have a huge historical rivalry with Laos (or East Thailand as I like to call them).

Goes back to ancient times and basically Thais can’t stand the Laotians and vice versa although their culture and history is virtually identical.

Think Croatia and Serbia EXCEPT that both Thailand and Laos even have the same religion (Buddhism) whereas Croatia was Catholic and Serbia Orthodox

Da, perfect is tank for tropical country. By Ukrainian Air Conditioning Company, of Kiev, is hotsie-totsie climate control to cockpit be keeping under 140 degrees F.

Also for the swamps crossing, is good and the big trees knocking down. To rest crew, fire the big gun, by the rocking and rolling will come soon sleep to crew persons. Grass hut knocking down capability good is, along with overheat. But new industry will start in Thailand, Oblot junkyards. Make fortune. Also, towing opportunity.

I give $5,000 per unit, taxes and tags included.

From The 2009 FreeRepublic Lexicon:

Thailand (or Thailand?) - described by mware: On a recent thread regarding the murder of Jon Bennet Ramsey, the heads up was someone was going to be arrested in Thailand for her death. The first three consecutive posts were all the same one word response, "Thailand?"

The Thais and Laotians are distinctly different cultures with different languages. Don’t argue with me, ask my Laotian wife and Thai ex-girlfriends.

As far as Thais needing tanks to use against Laotians, that’s nonsense. Use against the Muslims in the south or on the Burmese border is what this is about.

The Laotians are still in a semi-civil war. Thais and Laotians otherwise get along fine.

The pink lipstick on the end of the main gun is a nice touch. Maybe a nice purse to go with it.

I'm not going to argue with a guy who's got actual hands-on experience (pun intended :-P)

Thank you for your insight.

It looks like a piece of junkyard engineering.
Like a rusty old car outfitted with ugly selfmade tuning parts to look modern and sporty (in a builder’s view:)
