Mobs are the reason they made grenades
That's why they say, "don't mess with an old man...a young man may beat you up, but an old man will kill you." At 46, I'm by no means "old" (nor are you in your 50s), but I've taken enough beatings to not want to take another.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
We used 12 ga. #6 steel shot which I had never used before.
IMO, inside 50 ft, it will do plenty of damage to a human body while not (necessarily) going through doors and walls endangering innocents. Plus, you don't have to be real accurate.
The way I figure it, my Glock mod 20 with 15+1 and two additional 15 round mags (two filled with carefully hoarded Black Talon 10mmm and the other with 180 gr FMJ) will probably be enough to get me to the back of my Avalanche where more persuasive instruments await.
Yes - that's the way I was taught to handle a knife. I have a 37 year old Cold Steel tanto that works very well in that manner. It's a nasty block to a punch, it's a hard strike with the pommel and it can be quickly flipped around for other uses. And just as quickly flipped back. When it came to CQB, my instructor always said, "Get away from a knife, close in on a gun."
No other knife has worked as well for me as that old Cold Steel tanto.
Would you shoot them in the back?
Could you shoot when they attack?
Would you, could you with a knife?
Could you, would you, save your life?
The Hi-Power far more concealable than one might expect. I have one, and carry it in cool weather.
I recommend against carrying it with the 20rd mag in it. It really does stick out too much. Standard mag is 13 rds (you already know this), and flush-fit 15rd mags are available. Ram-Line makes (used to make?) them, among others.
If you want have the extended mags, carry them as spares. It'll be a lot more comfortable that way, and you're more likely to actually carry the thing.
For indoor self/home defense, you're undoubtedly right. I was speaking more of total lethality. And also, of course, for indoor home defense, you do NOT want either slugs or 00 buck for the exact reasons you mentioned.
Everybody thinks slugs and 00 buck are "the best" shotgun loads for lethality, but some real experts disagree.
Bear repellant runs almost $30 for the large can while wasp spray is about $3 - if you’re mob attacked then snake shot in a .45 spreads the goodness around. LOL
You are right about the 20 rounder protruding a bit from the Hi-Power. I think I still would use it if I were forced to be in an area where flash mobs were prevalent. I have tried it in a Galco shoulder holster and the main problem is the back of the mag tends to snag.
Mec-Gar makes a 15 rounder flush fitting, at a reasonable price from CDNN so there is no reason to buy any other. I have a very old 30 rounder to use as a back up. I have no idea who made it but it is high quality and works perfectly.
During the ban I carried that 30 rounder around to several gun shows and simply could not sell it even at a reasonable price. Now I am glad I didn’t
I suspect the “reduced lethality” ammo will get you in trouble with the inevitable civil suit to follow: “Why did you use buckshot instead of stingballs and pepperballs if you already had them available, you murdering NRA member, you?”
A knife in the hands of someone who really knows how to use it (like in some of the Filipino blade systems Arnis/Kali/Eskrima) can do so much damage that it is almost funny. Not many appreciate just how lethal a knife can be within a certain distance (more than most bullets). Actually, a guy called Paul Vunak (who teaches Jeet Kune Do with some Filipino elements, and years ago was quite popular in the uniformed forces for CQC training ...including some SEAL course, or so he claims) has a very interesting clip in one of his training videos where he shows just how lethal a knife can be even in the hands of an amateur. He says a good test is to give a little girl a marker pen, and tell her to flail at you as if it is a knife, and see if you can ‘block’ it without getting red marks all over you. There is also a very good book called Contemporary Knife Targeting: Modern Science vs. W.E. Fairbairn’s Timetable of Death (you can get it on Amazon) written by two police officers (which is why I think they got all those ‘interesting’ pictures of real knife wounds) and is a modernized overview of the ‘timetable of death’ that was done by William Fairburn. LEt’s just say that, at close distance, a person with a knife can kill faster than a person with a gun.
I bet Hamer could stop ANY riot by himself.
Of course, he wouldn’t have any trouble turning a BAR or even a M-2 .50 cal. on said riot...
These stories often get better with time and telling but there is a good one about Frank Hamer and the stuffed ballot boxes which LBJ used to win his Senate seat.
In Hamer’s case it just might be true.
Supposedly LBJ had hired a gang of Mexican bandits to guard the locked ballot boxes. Frank Hamer found the boxes and put his hand on the .45 auto he was carrying, looked at the Mexicans and simply said, “git”, and they did.
BTTT
Which goes to prove they were definitely NOT Darwin Award contenders...
Unfortunately, LBJ, possibly the second most evil president we have ever had, still won.
Me likey. Me steal?
“Me likey. Me steal?”
Thank you and yes.
Wasp spray and .45 snake shot will do nothing more than P!$$ off one of these animals and then, if you survive, you'll have to go to your proctologist to have a spray can and handgun removed from your posterior vent...
