Might I suggest a 12-16 ounce can of bear repellant & a .45 loaded with hollow points if the bear repellant don’t give the heathen pause the .45 will.

Actually, the number these days seems to be five, not three.

The 5.7 round it fires has overpenetration and low energy transfer issues. Zips right through but doesn’t make a good permanent wound channel.

Nothing is more “low energy” than “can’t buy it”. ;o)

There’s that, but it turns out that the 5.7x28 is terrible at antipersonnel unless the target is wearing armor.

Okay. Guess I’ll go back to the gun store and see if I can get my pointy stick back...

I suspect most flash mobs on the other hand are composed of cowardly bullies who would probably not stand up at all to an armed citizen unless they had him caught unawares.

Agreed. However, it seems that most of theses black flash mob attacks occur in gun free zones - cities/states without ccw. For example, Decatur, IL: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2771862/posts

This black violence has changed they way I think about concealed carry - I used to think that the j-frame was adequate, but now I'm looking at the XDM 9 with 19 rounds.

What took you so long?

You should have been thinking about that after Mumbai.

When I was 20 years old I was attacked by a gang of 15 ethnically unique individuals with clubs and chain. All I had on me was an unopened (glass) quart of Coca-Cola. 11 of the 15 went to the hospital for treatment. Though my shirt was torn off, I didn't have a bruise or a scratch on me.

I'm far more deadly in my 50's than I was at 20. I no longer have access to glass quarts of Coca-Cola, but I do legally carry 3 sidearms-- Ruger .357 Magnum Police Service 6 (6 shot), Taurus 9mm Parabellum (13 shot + 1), Kurz 9mm "Little Buddy" (6 shot + 1)-- whenever I go out. All are loaded with Federal Hydroshock Plus-P hollowpoints.

I practice fast-repel techniques and am always aware of every person in sight when in public areas. Having been jumped by 15 goons will do that to you. I can draw and accurately (in close-quarter combat--less than 10 feet) discharge all rounds on my person in well less than 30 seconds.

I am never afraid.

Long story short... don't be a flash mob. It might be me you're about to jump, unaware of the lethal danger you're in.

I guess I’m an old fart, and slow to change. I’ve always liked revolvers and a 442 slips easily into the front pocket. But you’re right, hi-cap is required today.

Nothing wrong with the 442. It just needs a friend.

My standard loadout for Fall/Winter/Spring is a 642 riding backup for my Glock 19. Depending on the situation, the 642 could very well be pulled/fired first.

I've watched several of the videos of flash mobs and not all but some looked like kids getting out of school or a movie, then the SHTF.

IMO, giving the impression of normalcy is part of the game. I know it is in the *knock out game*

Be prepared.

Against this threat, that also means carrying extra ammo.

No, it's not comfortable. But as Clint Smith quipped, "A gun is meant to be 'comforting', not 'comfortable'".

9 mm or 40 S&W ... tired fingers.

When I first started concealed carry I had a H&K USP .40. Too big and heavy when carried in in a fanny pack/holster to haul around all day. Then went to a Sig 9mm; better, but also too big and heavy. Went to a Star .40. Getting better, but too big and heavy. Taurus 2" bbl total titanium .357 much better, not too big or heavy, but printed through the fanny pack/holster. Now I have a Colt Mustang .380 for concealed carry. Point being that although I'd prefer an UZI, practically speaking a small handgun is more likely to get carried with you than a large one.

"....and the last 10 with OO buckshot."

Number 1 buckshot has greater lethality. Apparently, more (but slightly smaller) holes in ones body causes a more rapid blood-pressure drop, and thus faster incapacitation of the adversary.

I picked up this tidbit from a sports magazine MANY years ago from an article about an African guide who carried a shotgun to "back up" his clients in case they missed (leopard hunts). He swore that No. 1 was better than No. 00.

But I "love" that Kel-tec shotgun.

I recommend (somewhat) Hardin’s autobiography if you have nothing else that interests you at the time. I think it’s $2.99 or something for the Kindle edition.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Usually when you go to the sites its out of stock or on backorder. I’m hoping Impact will honor the $299 price I ordered it under.
