Speaker John Boehner has rejected Obamas request to address a joint session of Congress on September 7th to discuss his jobs plan. Boehner has asked that Obama consider the following night instead.
According to Politico, Boehner said in a letter to Obama that Sept. 8th would be better so we can ensure there will be no parliamentary or logistical impediments that might detract from your remarks.
It is important to note that on September 7, the GOP Presidential candidates will have a debate that is sponsored by NBC and Politico that will air on MSNBC. NBC and Politico announced earlier today that they would air the debate and not show the address to Congress.
That arrogant pos really believes he is king and everyone must do what he wants
Very rude!
NO ONE will be watching Obama.
Last year, the opening Thursday night game drew a 28 share which translates into 28% of all TV households with televisions on at the time.
That is a BLOWOUT rating in today’s environment. That’s something like 30 million pairs of eyeballs.
Against that, Obama will be LUCKY to draw 5 million, on ALL networks.
Don’t stop there. Throw Monopoly money around and dance spontaneous square dances and jigs.
Extremely rude, going apoplectic!
Speaker has won this round if he sticks to his guns, and I believe he will.
Reid has opted out of the fight: any date is “OK with me.” Significant that Reid didn’t jump on Boehner.
Glaringly obvious that neither side in Congress has any respect for this inept juvenile.
Oh crap, I didn’t realize that. :>)
Are you saying Boehner is being rude???
I agree. Maybe even his own are getting a little sick of The [Arrogant] One.
Why all the celebrating on this thread? Did everyone just read the headline?
Boehner still wants to let Obama stand there, acting like a king, lecturing Congress about how awful they are if they don't go along with him. Sob stories, lies, and revisionism will be the order of the night, it doesn't matter if it's the 7th or the 8th.
If Boehner had declined completely, THEN that would be great news.
BTTT
.... ... and the donkey you rode in on.
The following night is the NFL season kickoff (see related thread)!

No Speaker, nor Majority Leader has ever denied a President the opportunity to address a Joint Session.
If Speaker Boehner were to deny the President on this occasion, he would be acting even more petty and classless than the President in requesting the Wednesday date opposite the Repulican debate.
We don't need that.
LOL Oblidiot vs. the NFL
NFL - WINNING! LOL
Oblidiot won’t get more than 3% versus that! Cracks me up.
HOLD THE LINE BOHNER! Let that cretin twist in the wind.
I disagree. Congress does not come back from the August recess until 6:30 PM. Obama wants to speak at 8 PM. There is no logistical time for security and procedural reasons to comply with the President’s request.
This should have been hashed out in private. Obama gets what he deserves. Now he is truly backed in a corner.
Right on, Mr. Speaker.
Now will all the “true conservatives,” who have been trashing Boehner while he stands firm on the frontlines for America, just shut up!!
The President’s speech, the Republican debate and the kick-off of the NFL season are interest driven events. People interested in the same ‘ole satan sandwhich, served-up by the President aren’t going to benefit our cause in any case. I’ll be watching the debate!
