Sarah Palin Appearance at Tea Party Rally in Iowa ‘No Longer Confirmed’
WSJ ^ | August 31, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 08/31/2011 8:11:56 AM PDT by markomalley

Sarah Palin canceled her Saturday appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa, a person close the former Alaska governor told The Wall Street Journal.

The person cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

Ms. Palin is known for last-minute schedule changes that whipsaw supporters and media across the country. But the latest decision is puzzling. Ms. Palin’s speech at the rally was viewed as her most high-profile appearance of the summer, fueling speculation she was indeed plotting to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Attendees were reportedly traveling from across the U.S. to attend the rally in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

The former governor will now appear at a Friday event in Des Moines sponsored by the group Conservatives4Palin. It is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. at The Machine Shed Restaurant, though the location will probably have to be changed, the person close to Ms. Palin said. Ms. Palin is still scheduled to appear at a Tea Party Express tour stop Monday in New Hampshire.

Ms. Palin may still hold an event Saturday, the person said, though she has no firm plans. It’s also possible she could still attend the Indianola tea party rally, the person said.

The former governor’s team decided to back out Tuesday night after rally organizers re-invited Ms. O’Donnell to speak on stage. Organizers had booked Ms. O’Donnell, who lost her 2010 bid for a U.S. Senate seat from Delaware, to speak but quickly withdrew the invitation in an effort to avoid controversy.

ABC News’ Sheila Marikar and Shushannah Walshe report:

Sarah Palin has not canceled her keynote speech for the Tea Party of America’s Saturday rally in Indianola, Iowa, according to the event’s organizers.

Ken Crow, the founder of the Tea Party of America, told ABC News this morning that he “hung up with [Palin’s] people five minutes ago” and “she’ll be here on Saturday.”

“Gov. Palin is a lady of her word and impeccably honest,” he added. He admitted that the organization’s encountered “a couple of errors” in planning the Sept. 3 rally.

“I’m naive when it comes to politics and what you are supposed to say to and not say and my crew and I are rookies at this sort of thing,” he said. “We made mistakes and now we are fixing them. It’s all good.”

Multiple media outlets reported this morning that Palin had backed out of the “Restoring America” event, but still planned to be in Iowa on Saturday.

Yeah, but I followed for quite while before I signed up. I tracked the site during the Clinton impeachment days.

Yeah, I completely ignore the MSM polls (and yes, including fox) except for comic releif. And internet polls, of course.

RCP Scott Conroy has reportedly tweeted that Gov Palin`s participation at the event is on hold. Most of the people reporting on this have taken it from the WSJ blog, they may not have Gov Palin`s best interests at heart.

I believe NONE of us know what is going on, only speculation.

“If someone is getting air time more than another i.e. Perry right now, he’s likely to get the nod in polls, just because that’s what people are hearing. It is that simple and why it is simple minds read into simple polls.”

Or...it could be that someone who gets the nod in multiple polls gets more air time.

Something tells me you will be waiting by your computer for that big Facebook announcement of a run all election night, if need be.

Either way Palin determines most Freepers are well prepared for whatever the outcome. Whinners will always be that.....but they do come around when it matters.

No...my life does not center around what Palin does or doesn't do...though she is certainly amazing to watch...and of course I am certainly not alone in this....everyone pretty much is tuned into where she is at and what she is doing......I see she has your attention as well....

There is no doubt that candidates are very concerned of what she will or not be doing....meanwhile she is impacting this race without even declaring....that's pretty astounding in itself....most realize this.

I have my favorites so far....and yes Palin will be on the top if she runs. If she doesn't plan B comes into play. Either way she will impact this election greatly as we've seen.

Something’s rotten and it is not Palin’s doing. We will see.

By the way, I had to laugh at your tagline :)

I’m with you, Sam. I can’t believe the number of freepers letting themselves get rolled by the media. It’s astounding, really.

Who is Ken Crow? Did he work for Perry's campaign in Texas?

I don't know you from Adam, and quite frankly I am beginning to understand why. As far as polling data this far out, it's biased towards those that are actually paying attention. Polls are skewed by the closeness one has to the occurrence. Right now more people are concerned with the economy, sports, weather and home life than to give more than just a single thought to politics. If someone is getting air time more than another i.e. Perry right now, he's likely to get the nod in polls, just because that's what people are hearing. It is that simple and why it is simple minds read into simple polls.

You apparently misunderstand the point to polling.

Polling is not intended to be a long-term predictor. Pollsters themselves will tell you this. Polls are a snapshot of what opinion among a large group is like *at this moment* and therefore has predictive value only over a short period into the future. In this sense, you are correct. However, your terminology that polling data this far out is "biased" is incorrect. Polling data is "biased" or "unbiased" based upon the constitution of the sample taken, and how closely that sample is to the actual composition of the group being polled, etc. The distance in time to the event which is ultimately the end result of the (hopefully) series of polls being taken plays no role in "bias."

You have some raw nerve accusing anyone of being a troll.Palin ping lister’s are acting like DU trolls.

EXAMPLES:

I HEART PALIN,I will vote for her even if she does not run,Palin is already President. She will announce in Oct. we mean Nov. no Jan.We know her secret plan, Everyone including Jesus is a RINO Sarah was born to run.

She is a politician she endorsed Perry and wanted to be Romney’s VP in 2012.This nation needs saving alright but it won’t be by someone who rides around in a bus and plays games. No time to play games.

You people do not have a clue what you are talking about being self appointed Palin campaign managers.Just because you post huge graphic pictures and say you HEART her does not make her run.She has already said she is giving a speech for the love of God this is all, a speech.Yet there will be another October surprise SARAH LOUISE PALIN HUGE PICTURE INSERTED HERE thread when she does not announce In a few days.I think there are some DU trolls amongst your Palin ping lists as it is ridiculous.

Obama is destroying us by the minute I will be damned if I play ring around the rosey with a cult that does not reflect well on Palin. If your goal is to make me sick of her you have reached the goal DING DING DING.

However, many, many FReepers want to assume that ALL polling is fake, biased, etc. so as to prevent unpleasant facts from intruding into their personal self-contained fact-spaces. Even though it has been shown that the professional pollsters are actually pretty on target most of the time. I learned my lesson after 2008. A lot of FReepers didn’t.

Well why don't you wait to see what happens in the primaries then? If you are so confident that your polling data is correct and nobody will vote for Palin but us Freepers, than Palin will get knocked out of race early on and then you will be proven correct.
