A group of 150 archaeologists and students sent a petition Tuesday to Environment Minister Gilad Erdan and Sport and Culture Minister Limor Livnat, asking them to drop their support for a law that formalizes private archaeological digs and research at national parks and historical sites. The petition says that the law would politicize archaeology in Israel and damage the independence of researchers," and calls for the ministers to oppose the "privatization of archaeology," which, they write, would be the death knell of archaeology in Israel.
But supporters of the law said that there were already hundreds of independent and private groups conducting archaeological research around the country. In fact, supporters say, there is only one dig that the group is interested in halting the one going on in Ir David (the City of David), conducted by the Elad organization.
The law, proposed by MK Yisrael Hasson (Kadima) and other MKs, has already passed its first reading, and is being discussed in Knesset committees prior to its second and third reading, which should take place soon after the Knesset reconvenes after the upcoming Jewish holidays. The law states that organizations which seek to preserve historical, archaeological, or architectural sites, either natural or man-made, and do not operate as for-profit groups, will be able to carry out work at sites.

Sounds like it.
“In fact, supporters say, there is only one dig that the group is interested in halting the one going on in Ir David (the City of David), conducted by the Elad organization.”
They had traitors like this in Bible days too.
Attempting to discredit the biblical narrative or the Hebrew National Historical Narrative is a big part of the JINO campaign to deligitimitize Zionism within Israel.
The bigger question is ‘Are these people mad or evil or both?’
I would really like for some Jewish Freepers to enlighten us on this one.
Zionism formally started out as an assimilationist movement. Theodore Hertzel, when he discovered that gentiles will continue to dislike Jews no matter how assimilated they were, gave up on his idea of mass conversions to Catholicism, and determined that the only way to truly assimilate would be to have a Jewish homeland, but one in which Jews act emphatically un-Jewish, and embrace the haut culture of Europe that he so admired. But true Zionism pre-dates Hertzel, and Jewish crisis in Europe involved the very Jews that Theodore Hertzel and his ilk felt embarrassed to be around, all those kaftan-wearing, herring-eating Jooos! from whom the Hertzel-ian Zionists wished to distance themselves. But not all Jews within the Zionist movement felt that way, and those that did were strongly left wing. Ze’ev Jabotinsky founded the more right-wing Revisionist Zionist movement. They, too, were assimilationists, but wanted to save the Jews stuck in Europe facing annihilation, and then compel them to shave their beards and sidelocks. There were also religious Zionists led by Rav Kook, who simply wanted to return to Zion and live as Jews, no assimilation, thank you very much. They, too, wanted to save European Jews. The British, who only wanted to save their hegemony in the Middle East, favored the Hertzel/Ben Gurion/Kollick brand of Zionism, and did their very best to keep those annoying Jooos! away from the Jewish Homeland, encouraging Arab riots and using them as justification for strict quotas on Jooos! The Revisionists, however, became determined to bring as many Jews as possible to Israel, and fought the British embarrassingly well as they smuggled in refugees and blew up major police and military targets. The Ben Gurion faction informed against them to curry favor with the British, and the British hounded them without mercy. These were the real nationalists. Modern day leftists in Israel are the ideological descendants of the leftists of that time. Assimilation is of utmost importance to them, the latest intellectual fashions, etc. So if Jewish nationalism is out of fashion, they are opposed to it. It then becomes an obstacle to their true desire, to assimilate and cease being Jews. Thus they want Ir David excavations to stop. The modern Israeli right is descended from the Revisionist and Religious branches, both of which are emphatically nationalistic. Thus, they want Ir David excavations to continue.

Privatizing archeological work removes the political influence. Liberals love control and are made up of elitists.
One of the authors of the petition is Dr. Rafi Greenberg of the Archaeological Department of Tel Aviv University, one of the most vociferous Israeli critics of the dig at Ir David. The dig, Greenberg said in a 2008 interview with USA Today, is connected by its umbilical cord to politics. No amount of dealing with ceramics and rocks can obscure the fact that the work is being done to establish facts in the present. Why don't these folks just change their name to Ali Ahkmed Mohamed and be done with it. Just stop the baloney and make the conversion complete.
If you hate yourself fine. Leave all others alone.
Fixed?
Sounds like the arguments between the People Front for Judea and the Judean Peoples Front groups in Monty Python’s Life of Brian movie.
Or maybe between FREEPERS arguing who’s the purest conservative of them all.
In as much as they worship themselves, yes.
And if the facts are, in fact, facts, which seems to be a given just because the word facts is used here, then what is the scientific argument against the work? Facts is what Science, as opposed to PC science, strives to establish.
Thanks for that nutshell. It straightens out some tangles in my own mind.
Thank you very much for posting this. Very illuminating. While being jewish, ardently pro-Zionist I was not aware of some of the Zionist movements darker, more disturbing sides particularly Herzls idea of mass conversions to Catholicism you mentioned.
Certainly Zionism as a Jewish movement first and foremost to preserve the religious orthodoxy that historically served, maintains today the Jewish vitality, dynanism fundamental to its existence, its very future, has a lot to be ashamed of.
Only recently did I become aware of Zionisms repugnant, anti-Ghetto Jew mentality when in 1948 upon creation of the State o Israel it banned the Yiddish language for all newspaper, book-publishing in 1948, only lifted a few years ago.

The great Hasidic and anti-Hasidic sages were already colonizing Israel long before either Rabbi Kalischer or Theodore Hertzel were even born. Long before there was a Hasidic movement, the great Hebrew poet Judah Halevi wrote that “My heart is in the East, but I am in the utmost West.” The return to Zion is a basic tenet of Judaism, mentioned repeatedly in daily prayers and prophesied in the Bible and Talmud.
The reestablishment of a Jewish state was inevitable once the ball of history started rolling towards freedom and human rights. Islamofascists want to roll the ball back towards a Caliphate and the masses trembling in ignorant fear before its absolute ruler, so naturally they can’t abide a Jewish state.
