CLICK HERE TO PETITION TO NAME THE 3rd FORD CLASS CARRIER THE USS ENTERPRISE CLICK HERE for the Petition to name the next Ford Class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Enterprise
[Click on the small images for a larger, higher resolution image of each]
The current USS Enterprise, CVN-65 will be decommissioned when CVN-78, the USS Gerald R. Ford is commissioned into the fleet. This will leave the high seas without a US aircraft carrier named Enterprise. The Big-E has been plowing the waves of the high seas for the last fifty and more years in defense of US National interests, and doing so successfully. In World War II, the USS Enterprise, a Yorktown Class aircraft carrier, CV-6, was the most highly decorated vessel of the war, and the most highly decorated combat vessel in US Navy history. It is critical that this proud tradition of service, honor and distinction continue. Please click the first picture above and sign your name to the petition requesting this...and email, forward, blog, twitter, facebook, and share it with your friends and ask them to do the same. We need hundreds of thousands of signatures to make this a reality. CLICK HERE for the Petition to name the next Ford Class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Enterprise The US Naval Institute, the Tailhook Association, and US Navy veterans had an initial petition HERE to name the 2nd Ford Class carrier, CVN-79 as the USS Enterprise. But the U.S. Navy named her the USS John F. Kennedy instead and so that effort has been discontinued. The USS Enterprise and this request needs more exposure. Let's support our veterans and rise up as citizens and add tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands of signatures so our elected and appointed officials will respond in the affirmative.

The USS Enterpsie name has a long tradition of honorable and amazing service dating back to the Revolution.
It is a non-political name and needs to adorn one of our new carriers as the existing USS Enterprise, CVN-65 will be retired when the new CVN-78, USS Gerald R. Ford is commissioned.
Please add your name to our petition, and spread the word.

I dunno, after Obama there is almost no “Enterprise” left in America. If it was truth in advertising for this nation today, you’d have to name it the “USS Entitlement”...or maybe with a bit of pun involved, the “USS Dole”.
To: Jeff Head
They could call it the Elton John, because with things the way they are it will soon be full of gay seamen.

“Trekkers” not “Trekkies” now.
I’m sure you’ll understand, as every 10 or 20 years, we need to come up with more “progressive” terminology for minorities.

IS anything named for General Chuck Yeager? If not, this would be the thing to name for him! A legendary aviator, and one who never got the public acclaim that he deserves.

You’ll get another carrier named after your political superiors.
To: SoldierDad
Thank you, this needs to go viral so we can send it to the Secretary of the Navy and Congress before they name number 3.

We’re hoping with the Enterprise name, that we can avoid that for at least one of this class.

CVN-65 will be retired when the new CVN-78, USS Gerald R. Ford is commissioned.
IIRC USS Enterprise, CVN-65, will be in mothballs, but I don't think she is scheduled to actually be scrapped. So the name shouldn't be reused until the ship in reserve is renamed or turned into razor blades.
If we are looking for non-controversial names go with battles like the first carriers Lexington, Saratoga and Yorktown. Calling her the USS Samar in honor of the sailors of Taffy 3 would be a good move in my opinion. And if you allow land battles, and the first three carriers were named for land battles after all, then call it the USS Medina Ridge for the largest armored fight the US has ever been involved in.

IS anything named for General Chuck Yeager? Has the Navy ever named a ship for someone (other than a politician) who was not a member of the Naval Service?
Honouring Chuck Yeager is the US Air Force's responsibility.
Part of US Hwy 119 in West Virginia is named "Chuck Yeager Highway".

“IS anything named for General Chuck Yeager?”
Yeager was Air Force, not Navy.
We have a lot of classic carrier names from WWII that could be used.
