Rick Perry and Democratic challenger Bill White agree that while plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero have stirred controversy, they don't object to a local decision affirming the Islamic group's right to build it. A New York City planning commission voted this week to clear the way for a planned Islamic community center and mosque near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

So it seems that if God can choose one who murdered his people to spread the Gospel, it is comparatively a small thing for Perry to repudiate a party that took a huge left turn.
Lots of good Americans were Democrats in the South in the 1980s and only a handful of people like you really have a problem with that.

I believe it to be a clear case of the Tenth Amendment having reasoned limitations.
Many of us here support the concept of the Tenth Amendment, but there are clearly instances where states cannot, and should not get away with certain things.
None of us here are going to sign on to the re-introduction of slavery in one state based on the Tenth Amendment clause. None of us would agree with all Christians being the focus of some form of persecution because another state wanted to impose something like that.
Perry likes to state he’s a big supporter of the Tenth Amendment, but you have to have the mental faculties to understand when you should or should not assert that point.
Would he be violating New York’s Tenth Amendment rights by stating he could not support the building of that mosque on a site where 09/11 debris landed? Would he be out of line stating that would be an abomination?
Of course not. He didn’t want to get caught with his foot in his mouth, so he erred on the side of not taking a firm stand. We all know it wouldn’t be binding, but it would be the right thing to do.
Let’s put this another way. If a labor union burned down a business, would it seem right that they would wind up owning the property and building a union hall there?
Although they bought the property, it is not fitting that an Islamic religious concern should wind up with a mosque where the Twin Towers debris landed after an attack justified by radical Islamic adherents.
It’s another case of there being no sensitivity to the concerns of U.S. citizens over a sore point. If this were a sore point to the Islamic adherents, it’s my take this would have been blocked.

I say again, you lack the intellect to understand the difference between the federal government lacking the constitutional authority today and the federal government being given the authority by constitutional amendment ratified by THE STATES.
That is so basic to understanding our constitutional republic that if you don’t understand it you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Bill White was the commencement speaker at a graduation for the University of Houston Clear Lake several years ago. He spoke for some time but said nothing. It was all feel-good platitudes. Totally meaningless pablem. Nonsense. At one point the people all around me were yelling at him to shut up. Bill White is in his own little world that nobody with any common sense wants to join.
