No mention of whether he had pepper spray or a gun.

In Grizzly country it’s best not to go out hiking without your HEAVY sidearm. Like .44Mag or better.

Tragic, but I do hope it can help this Idaho man's case.

Not killing the first bear was a mistake, and this could have been the same bear.

Best to have both the gun and spray.

The spray stuns her, at which point you can shoot her.

Hiking in a bear reserve has inherent risks. People are responsible for their choices. Not being armed is hard on the potential bear scat, but shooting bears in an area set aside for their protection is hard on bears.
Just saying that there are risks in going out to observe dangerous game and were this outside the park, I am sure I would feel differently.

Wonder how they will get the bear’s DNA without killing it first? They must have some plan in mind.

“”We know of no witnesses to the event at all,” Wenk said on Monday. “As far as we know he was in good health and out enjoying the park.”.......until the bear enjoyed him.

Felony conviction, forfeit of weapon and up to$ 250000, fine for having a gun in the tourist mecca of yellow stone. Do not feed the bears.

About twelve years ago we dropped off my son in this area and he hiked back to Old Faithful Lodge where we were staying.

I’m currently planning our trip back there for next year, and now that it is permitted, I will be carrying my .44 magnum.

To STOP a charging Griz, you better be shooting to break shoulder bone.
You’ll never get through the skull and you’ll be half eaten before he dies from a heart shot.

The best defense against a grizzly is to invite a slow Democrat friend along for the hike. Democrats - The other white meat.

It looks like this guy did the trifecta of idiocy for hiking in grizz country; he was alone, he kept his food near him, and (from the way the article reads) he was unarmed.
