No mention of whether he had pepper spray or a gun.

In Grizzly country it’s best not to go out hiking without your HEAVY sidearm. Like .44Mag or better.

Years ago I saw a news article that advised campers to carry a big stick to “beat off” bears.

The proper big stick is anything from .480 Ruger to S&W 500.

Not killing the first bear was a mistake, and this could have been the same bear.

Best to have both the gun and spray.

The spray stuns her, at which point you can shoot her.

Hiking in a bear reserve has inherent risks. People are responsible for their choices. Not being armed is hard on the potential bear scat, but shooting bears in an area set aside for their protection is hard on bears.
Just saying that there are risks in going out to observe dangerous game and were this outside the park, I am sure I would feel differently.

Wonder how they will get the bear’s DNA without killing it first? They must have some plan in mind.

“”We know of no witnesses to the event at all,” Wenk said on Monday. “As far as we know he was in good health and out enjoying the park.”.......until the bear enjoyed him.

One question the gun grabbers can never answer – what do you do when wild animals come after you?

Pepper spray? What if doesn’t have any effect on the animal and it runs out?

What is their answer? Not going into the woods?

Advice from here in Wyoming (and in places like Alaska) on that .44 or other heavy sidearm: Make sure you file down the front sight.
