“First of all, Asians can be very restrained in their reactions to this sort of thing.”

Depends when, where and for how long. I’ve seen Thais just shrug at obnoxious Westerners here, but also, if they crossed a line and grabbing a woman would qualify, the odds are very high of eating an elbow to the jaw or a front kick to the groin. Of course they will smile as they do it!

The South Koreans have drunk the koolaid? I Served in Korea in 60 and 61 and served with the Koreans in Vietnam in 67 and 68. I thought they would mob up on the guy.

It’s an unaccompanied tour, no dependents.

Probably a contractor. KBR ‘karnies’ are the classiest.

When I was in the army many moons ago, africans had big afros. They would wear a part of a woman’s pantyhose on their heads under their issue fatigue ballcap which would pack their hair down to regulation length. When off duty and off post, they’d pull the pantyhose off and their afros would unwind and spring out.

Approach from the rear, put him in a choke hold and wrap your legs around him, 2 minutes later - no problem.

Unless the military has REALLY changed:

If a dependent child: he will shortly be living with relatives in the states as he will be asked to leave.

If a spouse: wife will soon be on an unaccompanied tour as he will be asked to leave

If a civilian contractor: bub-bye.

Throw him in a Korean jail.

Frankly, I am amazed at the forebearance of the Korean men on the bus. I would have assumed he’d have gotten a swift Tae Kwon Do lesson and wound up in a coma with about ten broken bones and no teeth.

"more detail: The foreigner in question is 24 years old, an American, and an English teacher. The victim was 61. This went down around 11:10pm Saturday on the bus from Moran Station to Bundang. One of the bus passengers called 112 (Five-Oh), and the bus driver stopped the bus in front of a nearby police station, where the foreigner was arrested. After completing their preliminary investigation, the police let the alleged ruffian go, but plan to call him in again tomorrow for further investigation."
I haven't found the actual source yet.. but this is what was said over on LiveLeak..

Yep, probably a civilian contractor with the service. The Koreans need a Epic Beard Man at that moment.

Going to jail and/or getting beaten senseless are not the worst thing in the world. I’d step in, and let the chips fall where they may.

Do you have anyone who depends on you, and can't afford that sacrifice? I'm not talking about a spouse who can take care of herself in your absence. I'm not talking about family and friends who would miss you. I mean somebody who depends on you, like a disabled family member or children who depend on you for their care.

There are many possible reasons for not stepping in, and not all of those reasons are selfish.

Tae Kwon Do in Korea is more ubiquitous than baseball in America. I’m surprised the old man himself didn’t teach the thug a lesson.

I think that’s called Ebonics or Blackinese!
