...does anyone remember the one a few years back that was barreling north in the Gulf as a strong 4 and then diminished to a 1 or 2 right before landfall?

Was that Hurricane Ike? It came straight up through Texas and veered east of the DFW metroplex. Dumped massive amounts of water and kicked up a lot of wind around here, but didn't cause any real damage that I can recall.

I seem to recall that Ike hit other parts of Texas much harder. This was after Katrina and Rita.

No I think it was a lady name and it was traveling due north to the Panhandle and Alabama. I’ll have to search. We were all amazed, and thankful even though we weren’t in the path of that one.

Ike was pretty bad. Do you realize that Irene was a name previously used in 2005. The year of Katrina, Rita and I think Wilma too.
