U-571
U-571 is a truly an "on the edge of your seat" film about a US Navy crew trying to sail a Nazi U-Boat to England in 1942 (won't explain how that happens, see the movie). In one scene, the boat is attacked by depth charges from a German destroyer. The crew turns to the young skipper for guidance and asks what they should do to save the boat and their lives. He says he doesn't know.
Somehow they survive this attack. The wise, crusty Chief then has a fatherly chat with the skipper in a quiet moment over coffee. He explains that he let the crew down because they need to believe he knows everything, even when he doesn't. Why? Because their lives are in his hands, they have to have absolute confidence in the ability, knowledge and judgment of their skipper.
A submarine crew needs to have confidence in their skipper. We need to have confidence in ourselves. So often, the difference between success and failure is not intelligence or innate ability, but attitude! Many people condition themselves into believing they aren't as smart or capable as other people. They suffer from low self esteem. Even though they are every bit as intelligent as the next person, because they constantly down-rate themselves, they think they can never be successful. Eventually, their belief that they are doomed to fail becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.
We must live with a strong confidence (not to say, arrogance) in our abilities and potential. This confidence will fuel our will to succeed, and once again, the belief we can do the job and succeed becomes self-fulfilling prophesy. We are all Winners!

The Pirate
A sailor meets a pirate in a bar, and they take turns recounting their adventures at sea. Noting the pirate’s peg-leg, hook, and eye patch, the sailor asks, “So, how did you end up with the peg-leg?”
The pirate replies “We was caught in a monster storm off the cape and a giant wave swept me overboard. Just as they were pullin’ me out, a school of sharks appeared and one of ‘em bit me leg off”.
“Blimey!” said the sailor. “What about the hook?”
“Ahhhh...”, mused the pirate, “We were boardin’ a trader ship, pistols blastin’ and swords swingin’ this way and that. In the fracas me hand got chopped off.”
“Zounds!” remarked the sailor. “And how came ye by the eye patch?”
“A seagull droppin’ fell into me eye”, answered the pirate.
“You lost your eye to a seagull dropping?” the sailor asked incredulously.
“Well...” said the pirate, “..it was me first day with the hook.”

Aloha, Hawaii...
"...so let me pray that all goes well for all in path of the storm, Lord hear my prayer, and get Geraldo off the air."
My prayer as well. I had to turn Geraldo off.

In the late spring of 2009, our grandson was on a Washington DC tour with his fellow 8th graders from his Christian school. They were in the DC area for a week and during that time, they visited the Tomb of the Unknown.
Our grandson was chosen to lay a wreath at the tomb. We received pictures and video of the event. I was so proud of him and his fellow students for the solemn and respectful tribute they provided.
My gratitude to his US Govt teacher, one of the two chaperones from the school prompted me to make a set of windchimes for each of them (see the chime image below). The chimes in the picture are similar to what I presented to the school staff. The image you see are a set that I sent to our nephew Capt Bryan during his deployment to Afghanistan. He just returned last week from a 12 month deployment. He hung this particular set of chimes at his CP. He returned them to me last week and they hang near our front door. They took a beating from the constant wind at the camp. The windchimes you see show the paint chipped, but the ring of freedom rings loud and clear. Also, the 6 tubes display 50 stars... not 57 like a real jerk has stated in the recent past.

Knees don’t like back issues. They want to work together and back issues cause one or the other to work extra hard...leading to...hip and gait problems. A walker gives you and your knees some comfort to work at allowing both knees to work as intended. Sounds like it is working for you.
