NEW YORK As Hurricane Irene roars toward the East Coast home to some of the country's most densely populated cities and costliest waterfront real estate experts are forecasting a multibillion-dollar disaster.
Hurricane Irene is expected to make landfall in North Carolina as a Category 2 storm early Saturday, then move up the Eastern Seaboard, where more than 50 million people from the Carolinas to Massachusetts could be in the path of heavy rain and tropical-force winds. The economic impact of the hurricane largely will depend on factors that include the storm's size, where it makes landfall, and the speed at which it's moving when it hits the coast. But experts already are forecasting billions of dollars in losses.

The media are so salivating to make this into a monster storm....please! The "media" was so happy this morning when they finally got their "first" fatality. Their celebrating made me sick.

Think of all the jobs obama could save or create. I'm pretty sure he'll blame Irene for the loss of all the jobs he was going to create after his vacation. Unfortunately, he won't be able to create them now because of the "monster" hurricane.

Krugman ordered up ‘a natural disaster’ for Obama to take charge, turn the economy around, and create jobs.
MSNBC idiots spinning otherwise, to cover up his incompetence.
teh WON wins either way. Expect this kind of stuff intensifies till 2012.

Of course we shouldnt mention the jobs it will create when it passes. Those roofers who will be very busy, the clean up crews who will work for weeks, the construction industry that will need to fix or rebuild as necessary. I could go on and on but if we credit the storm Mr. Oscrewitup wont get to take the credit.

“Economic Genius Paul Krugman says a natural disaster will be a boon to the economy because of all the spending of money the government doesnt have on recovery...”
Exactly.
This will be just like “man made global warming”, no matter what happens it will be the cause...

“Im just waiting for Mr. Obama to blame former President Bush for the Hurricane.....he blames everything else on him.”
That's an easy one; I'll take it.
Bush cut some program that either helped to predict where the storm would go; or a program that would allow a faster response.
See; so easy a caveman could do it.

It would seem to me that a hurricane should help the economy? A homeowner or business will have to get repairs made, which would entail purchases being made, resulting in more sales to businesses. And repair companies will earn much more business doing repairs from the hurricane.I'm assuming you're kidding and being sarcastic. But just in case you're not, perhaps you ought to acquaint yourself with the "Broken Window Fallacy.

"Why wouldn't all the panic buying and hurricane repairs stimulate the economy?"
I'll beg the question. why wouldn't destruction of everything that could be used for rebuilding stimulate the economy? Well, okay, I'll answer the question with a comment. Because otherwise, people would keep what is not broken after all plus all that they would buy otherwise.
Replacement of broken things would be a break-even proposition, if it weren't for inevitable depreciation. It's best to avoid breaking things, and to manufacture more useful things instead. Granted, we're not doing that, which brings us back to the default process at hand.

Insurance payments mean people get hired to do repairs. Govt will of course throw money at it that they don’t have.
