Al-Qaida's second-in-command, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, has been killed in Pakistan, delivering another big blow to a terrorist group that the U.S. believes to be on the verge of defeat, a senior Obama administration official said Saturday.
The Libyan national who was the network's former operational leader rose to al-Qaida's No. 2 spot after the U.S. killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden during a raid on his Pakistan compound in May.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last month that al-Qaida's defeat was within reach if the U.S. could mount a string of successful attacks on the group's weakened leadership.

It seems like there are a lot of #2’s. We’re always killing #2. Are they #2 before we kill them, or do they get a sort of promotion-in-rank after death? Or, is it merely a job that has a very short maximum tenure? You’d think even ambitious Al Qaeda operatives might start turning down the promotion to #2 soon.
Wonder how many are left in the queue. They’re dropping pretty fast. At this rate, we should be able to leave Afghanistan annnnny day now.....
It would at least help with the deficit.
On second thought, maybe the premiums aren’t so bad. After all, those guys don’t tend to go through extended periods of disability or rehab....
Contact inhuman resources.
I guess they have no words in their language for “dead meat.”
The only way AQ leaders can be insured is through US federal housing programs. Nobody else is dumb enough to take the risk.
“Kill him and it all collapses. Except for the Ft. Hood shooter, the shoe bomber, the Times Square bomber and other lone wolf operations.
Zawhiri is #1. He is probably in the northern tribes area of Pakistan. He married somebody’s daughter, so is family and protected.
Maybe not since 200 Taliban from Afghanistan and possible the northern tribal area just attacked Paki troups and killed 15.
Everybody in Al-Qaida is #2.
This guy wasn’t even the most important “Rahman” on the rewards for justice webpage! He had a reward for $1 million while another “Rahman” has a reward for $5 million.
Also this guy was reported dead last October. Was his death ever retracted or does the US want to take credit for killing every terrorist leader twice?
Regrettably islam is making great strides. When it is over and the dust has settled, our Nation will have been completely unsuccessful in establishing nation building. The moslem brotherhood or an offshoot of the moslem brotherhood will rule in all countries Americans have expended treasury and lives. It will have all been for naught. (imho)
Will this change? Unlikely (imho) because our government in the U.S. has been infiltrated thoroughly, and money flows regularly to politicians who do not sense the danger due to our politicians' ignorance and love of other people's money. While I agree the West must confront islam and remove islam as a surgeon cuts away a disease, this will never happen in the West, till those (politicians) who take money from the religion of death (islam), nothing will change and when it all comes tumbling down those politicians and their families will be some of the first to be removed by those who have infiltrated our government (imho). islam only uses people. islam is the most corrupt form of government ever created. islam will do what islam always does best, and what islam does best is threaten and kill wherever islam is entrenched. To those who believe islam is not a threat, there is no case to prove islam is peaceful, nor is there a case to be made where islam is anything other than war society generating propaganda while islam advances another notch toward victory. Till islam is called out and confronted (which probably will not happen before it is too late) nothing will change to prepare the people of the West to know islam is no friend, but is instead a fiend.
Knowing this, one is the infidel, and everyone knows what happens to infidels. islam does as their evil book preaches.
well said.
