Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

But now I heard the airports are closed tomorrow inbound.
It was my friend and her 20 something daughter ..not my daughter.
I am so relieved they can’ t go.
They were probably knocked out by one of those gigantic waves...
thank you again so much for posting this thread...Can we now make it a Live Thread?
I thought this was the live thread.
The real mess will come with all of the mature trees that haven’t battled a rain soaked ground and 100mph winds. It’s going to be a nightmare in many neighborhoods along the seaboard.
I don’t understand your question.
Ooops..just saw this is a Live thread...
thanks again for your dedication to safety of Freepers and others!

Back for a few minutes after being away from news for several hours... looks like my landfall site is going to be wrong - and I am glad for that, although Ocracoke is gonna eat it.
Lots of saturated ground up and down the EC, some more than others. Been a very wet August in a number of spots.
Flashback? :)
Ha...getting a little nervous about this hurricaine..and I am out of Ice cream..maybe will have to make a run for ice cream. Here in Jax, Fl it has been a beautiful day...but I know what hurricianes can be like.
Of course, Fox news keeps me going.ha.
My son and his fiancee are in Westbury, Long Island - not an evac area. But she is an ER pediatric doctor at Good Samaritan and they are evacuating the hospital. I’m actually more concerned about one of my twin daughters in the Albany area. She has a house-killer tree not far from the back of the house that started to split this spring. I’ve been bugging the heck out of her to get the thing taken down. The rain all by itself could cause it to come crashing through the roof.
I heard someone on FNC say NYC tourists will still find something to do this weekend, but with no subway or buses running, it’s either going to be a lot of walking in the rain or paying for very expensive cabs.
If I were going to drink water from a 1,500 gallon storage tank as you do, I am sure I would want to treat it in some way before drinking. Just not comfortable with the chlorine. There are other options available.
How long do you store this water before use?
